"We liked each other from the first second," said Lagerfeld of his latest muse Janelle Monae, "Not just because of our style, but also the name – Janelle rhymes with Chanel no?"

While the suit wearing duo might seem thick as thieves following a recent shoot for W Magazine, Monae shouldn't get too comfortable: Lagerfeld's tumultuous history with his muses indicates that he doesn't seem to understand that the last 'F' in BFF stands for forever. Lagerfeld's former muses Claudia Schiffer, Ines de la Fressange and Kimora Lee have all been exiled from his inner circle after disappointing him in different ways (de la Fressange dared to pose as Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic while Schiffer and Lee abandoned their high fashion looks for families). Although they have since made up (de la Fressange even walked in the Chanel Spring 2011 show), Lagerfeld had already replaced his former friends with fashion newbies like Blake Lively, Rachel Bilson and Cat Power's Chan Marshall.
