Today at Florence's Pitti W, a part of the annual Pitti Immagine trade show dedicated to special projects in women's fashion, Kate and Laura Mulleavy revealed their latest and possibly greatest project to date. The Rodarte girls debuted a new and breathtakingly beautiful installation that revolves around ten exclusive couture pieces. The gowns, on display in an old and storied Florentine building, were inspired by Fra Angelico frescos and Gian Lorenzo Bernini's The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa.
It's no surprise that Rodarte's taken on the art of couture, since the majority of their runway collections straddle the line between high fashion and ready-to-wear. While Italy is the perfect place to showcase their romantic, often baroque and heavily artistic visions, they'll also get a chance to preview Rodarte couture stateside once it's run in Italy is through - Kate and Laura have promised the Los Angeles County Museum of Art the collection.
