Last Thursday night, some of the biggest names in fashion came out to mourn the loss of Daphne Guinness - well, not exactly. The socialite, sometimes model, journalist, stylist and advancing icon in the fashion business was styled by Gareth Pugh as a veiled corpse, laid to rest on a floating plank, surrounded by candles and wearing lace Alexander McQueen and a $1.1 million jeweled glove.

The glove, a piece created using 18-karat white gold and 5,000 pave diamonds, was the centerpiece of the entire display. Daphne and Gareth put on the hauntingly beautiful presentation to showcase her collaboration with friend and British jewelry designer Shaun Leane. Daphne had previously commissioned extravagant and avant-gard pieces from Shaun to compliment her equally eccentric wardrobe, but the designer (and some might say, artist) is also more famously known for creating the elaborate and dramatic accessories for Alexander McQueen's runway shows (now on display at the McQueen Met exhibit).

Though the glove isn't exactly practical, it's certainly really pretty to look at, even on Daphne's lifeless body. This particular piece is obviously a one-of-a-kind couture creation, but we hope that Sean and Daphne will get together one day to create a mainstream jewelry line. If they did, we'd definitely die of happiness.
