I once thought only Barbie doll-like celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Hilary Duff came equipped with pocket-pups, but it turns out that the beauty world's most brooding hairstylist also accessorizes with her dog, a miniature pinscher named Cherry Ann.
In today's New York Times' Frequent Flier column, Hershberger talks about the perils of taking little Cherry Ann with her as she jet sets from coast to coast, traveling between her New York and Los Angeles salons, attending sales meetings for her product line and styling high-profile photo shoots for the likes of Louis Vuitton and Badgley Mischka.
Hershberger gripes about her howling dog's embarrassing habit of causing pandemonium in planes and airports. Such scenarios are this celebrity hairstylist's worst nightmare, as she says she likes to keep conversation to a minimum while traveling -- an admission that surprises no one, since she's known for her brusque style.
"Sally's not really a proponent of making people feel better," once said Sandra Bernhard, Hershberger's longtime friend and client, in an article in New York Magazine. Hershberger's fellow passengers would second that motion.
Though she recently bought a stronger pet carrier to travel with, I suggest an even more effective way to get into her in-flight neighbors' good graces: Gift vouchers. Even in tough times, the stylist still hasn't budged on her $800-a-haircut fee.
Going forward, maybe Hershberger would benefit from one of the fab carriers our friends at Paw Nation rounded up -- they're perfect for pampered pups and owners alike!
Chic Pet Carriers
Carrier We Covet
If we had the nerve (and the means) to spend $990 on a dog carrier, we'd buy this Gucci for our poochie. Bearing the beige and ebony interlocking GG design and classic red and green wide straps, this is the bag we covet --- from afar. Jessica Simpson carries her Malti-poo Daisy around in the larger, duffel bag version that retails for $1,420. Buy this carrier

For Guys
Yes, manly men do have small dogs, and sometimes, they have to carry them around. The "Eddie" messenger bag ($88) from Kwigy-Bo is made of black canvas with a reflective stripe and doesn't even look like a dog carrier. In fact, one guy told us he uses it to sneak his Maltese into the mechanic's shop where he works. Buy this carrier

It's not the most stylish-looking bag of the bunch (we're just sayin') but for functionality and roominess, the original Sherpa bag ($60) is tops. With fully ventilated side panels and a rectangular, boxy shape, it may be the most comfortable way for your pet to travel, including in the cabin of an airplane. Buy this carrier
