Quality Time | Swatch Teams up with Kid Robot for Limited Edition Watches (PHOTOS)

Courtesy Photo

Swatch has teamed up with popular figurine designer Kid Robot for a colorful collection of eight watches. Based on the Swatch "New Gent" timepieces, these watches are unisex in nature and offer a fun, contemporary pop culture feel to any look.

Artists Gary Baseman, Jeremyville, Frank Kozik, Joe Ledbetter, MAD, Tara McPherson, SSUR, and Tilt each designed a watch and a corresponding "Dunny." (A dunny is what Kit Robot calls its rabbit-like character that artists use as a canvas for their creations.) Unfortunately, not all the watches come with dunnys, just the limited edition models. These latter ones are paired with with a matching 3-inch dunny, and one model comes with a larger 20-inch dunny.

In addition to the standard models, Swatch will offer 300 limited edition sets that will include all eight watches, plus the eight corresponding dunnys. The standard watches alone retail for $70, while the limited edition set (300 total) will go for $1,500. Take a look at the gallery below to learn about the specific models, their names and the artists behind them.

Quality Time | Swiss Army Victoria Diamond Watch

Swiss Army Victoria Diamond Watch
When you think "Swiss Army watch" you don't tend to think of a lady's timepiece. For years Swiss Army has offered attractive but decidedly 'handsome" women's watches. For 2011 Victorinox Swiss Army's Victoria Diamond is a new type of "Army" watch with a more delicate feminine demeanor.

The steel case design reminds me a bit of the Omega Constellation, while the bracelet again is a bit masculine, but tastefully so. The bezel is decorated with 56 full-cut diamond (around 0.38 carats), leaving the dial a bit more stark. There are only a four hour indicators, but the face is decorated with textured off-center sunburst. It makes the Swiss Army logo look like it is lost in a desert full of sand dunes.

As a Swiss Army watch the piece is durable. It has 100 meters of water resistance, an AR coated sapphire crystal, and hardy Swiss quartz movement. The idea of the piece really seems to be blending the functional values of the brand with a more elegant touch for women. Price is $1,495 and will be available soon.

Time for Bling | Harry Winston Midnight Midsize Diamond Watch

Harry Winston Midnight Midsize Diamond Watch
What would you rather own? A watch from a watch maker or a watch from a diamond jewelry maker? The answer can depend on what you are looking for but in Harry Winston's case you can actually have both. Their newest women's piece is this Midnight Midsize. The Midnight collection has been revamped for a more classic, elegant feel. At 32mm wide the case is in 18k rose gold and reflects Harry Winston design DNA while offering a more reserved look. The case is decorated with diamonds on the bezel and lugs, as well as some of the hour indicators. The hands look like skinny '50s era rocket ships in my opinion.

The minimalist look of the dial is augmented with a sun-ray textured champagne color dial and matching satin strap. The Midnight Midsize is a conservative but beautiful timepiece right in line with current high-end watch trends. At a launch event Harry Winston invited Sofia Vergara who was wearing the watch.

Welcome to the Jungle | Boucheron 2011 Watches go Wild [Photos]

Boucheron 2011 Watches timepiece animals diamonds
People have been designing animals in to jewelry almost since the concept of jewelry began. Today dozens of designers are able to cast furry friends in gold and diamonds. Though on the high-end watch scene, only a few brands have mastered the art. One of them is Boucheron, and again for 2011, their high-jewelry timepiece collection masterfully mixes animals with whimsy. Not all of their pieces have animals, but here is a glimpse of their newest collection.

The pictured watch is sans creature - but is in honor of the famous 1001 Arabian Night tales and is called the Boucheron Crazy Sheherazade. Like the rest of the collection, it is in a 40mm wide case done in 18k rose or white gold, and features a beautifully hand-decorated dial and case set with diamonds, lapis lazuli, sapphires, amethysts and other stones. The circular dial toward the bottom spins and acts as the seconds hand.

Inside each of these watches is a Swiss Girard-Perregaux automatic movement. Boucheron considers them unisex, but I take issue to that. Can the new Crazy Jungle Hathi with an elephant on the dial and purple satin strap work on my male wrist? Maybe with a black strap... The art and jewelry work on the pieces is incredibly impressive. Note how the head of the flamingo in the Crazy Jungle Flamingo watch actually looks to be underwater with small accompanying fishes.

Boucheron does an incredible job at creating imagery with precious materials. The other piece in the gallery below is the Crazy Jungle Seahorse (yes I know, the name makes no sense). Many of these pieces come in two variants: with or without the additional decoration on the bezel. Exclusive, luxurious and imminently artful (not to mention expensive), this is a glimpse at the watches Boucheron Audacious collection has to offer for 2011.
