Tibi Fall 2011 Fashion Week Runway Review

Frazer Harrison, Getty Images for Mercedes-Benz

DESIGNER: Amy Smilovic of Tibi

INSPIRATION: "Sleek and modern simplicity of the 90s decade. Updated interpretations of American classics that are sophisticated, fresh and young are mised with extreme elements for night in rich laces, appliques and Rococo style prints."

TOP LOOKS: All the coats, the dresses and the "spider lace print" pieces.

ACCESSORIES: Sweet booties with bows, glittering gold flats with ankle straps, hot pink knit caps

WHO WAS THERE: Vanessa Hudgens; Olivia Palermo; Tinsely Mortimer

WHAT WE THOUGHT: A Tibi coat is something to be prized, as it hits a perfect intersection of cool and classic. Fall 2011 is no exception, with a confident "calvary" coats and cozy shearlings. One black and charcoal gray topper had delightfully shocking pink peeking out from the pockets - just the kind of detail that make's Tibi's clothes so fun. (Hot pink was a motif throughout the collection, appearing on both knit hats and arm warmers.)

Tibi, of course, is known for its dresses, and this collection had frocks that were both very short and flirty,or slouchy, elegant and mid-calf. An ivory drop-waist boat-neck dress printed with deep watercolor splashes at the hem and a gray cable sweater dress get votes for wearability. But the show stoppers were a short shimmery gold and navy box-pleated dress and a sleeveless silk wook top with a sculpted neckline, paired with a skirt emblazoned with a scarlet swirl. Simple lines paired with dramatic fabrics -- wow, I'd love to walk into a room wearing either.

Cynthia Steffe Fall 2011 Fashion Week Review

DESIGNER: Shaun Kearney for Cynthia Steffe

INSPIRATION: "Unconventional future royalty -- one who pulls off the grown-up look with cool, youthful attitude."

TOP LOOKS: Gray brushed-wool and black leather coat; maroon allover square-looped sweater jacket with burgundy leather pencil skirt; terracotta crochet wool lace top with black leather trim and hunter lightweight basket-weave tweed skirt; tawny brown plissé-satin dress with sculpted ruffle peplum

ACCESSORIES: Big fur neck muffs; simple Via Spiga booties; American Apparel and Wolford tights, some textured and chevron patterned

WHO WAS THERE: Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen, Reshma Shetty

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Finding warm sweaters that are sexy, elegant and flattering -- and don't look destined for a ski lodge -- is many a woman's challenge in the cold months. That's why we loved the fitted "loop" sweaters and textured vests Shaun Kearney showed for Cynthia Steffe for Fall 2011 (in a show co-sponsored by StyleList). They'd be perfect at work with a pencil skirt or even for a dinner date. Coats, too, were standouts, particularly a two-tone made of lovely gray brushed wool and a wide black leather strip at the hem. Kearney has a way of making leather and heavy wools look sculpted and pretty, and we'll enjoy wearing them even when we aren't enjoying the cold weather.

Heart Truth Red Dress: Fashion Week 2011 Fall

The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection has heart.

Keeping with tradition, this celebrity event kicked off New York Fashion Week Wednesday night with spirit: Celebs everyone loves, body shapes real woman can relate to, and of course, beautiful, flattering red gowns just about every woman would love to wear.

Staged to raise awareness of heart disease -- the No. 1 killer of women -- the show has also become something of a tribute to independent, strong women.

This year's edition (co-sponsored by AOL) at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center was particularly spirited. Who did we love?

* Linda Gray in Pamella Roland, who beamed as she came down the runway to the theme from "Dallas," naturally.

* Patti LaBelle in Zang Toi, who lip-synched to her own "New Attitude." She gets big points for wearing a dress so short in the front, though the long sleeves and skirt and looked a little choir gown like from the back.

* Dita Von Teese in Zac Posen. I would save all my money to buy this delightfully folded and pleated gown if only it would also make my hips like hers.

* Allison Sweeney in Tadashi Shoji. She just wrote "The Mommy Diet" and she looked like a beautiul hot, healthy Mom in a short red dress with tiny horizonal pleats. (Nice bicep pump for the cameras!)

* Suzanne Somers in Ina Soltani. Perhaps because she is forever Chrissy in our minds, Somers at 64 can get away with a girlish, short skirt and look like a knock-out.

The audience -- including model Camila Alves husand Matthew McConaughey, Johnny Weir and "The Fashion Show" winner Jeffrey Williams -- cheered them all.

Love the dresses? You can buy them at during a fund-raising auction at www.clothesoffourback.org through March 4.

Wow, that's a lot of star power for a great cause!

Now, if you don't know this show, you should. Each year it features celebrities and other wonderful women walking the runway in red dresses. Why red?

To remind women that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women.

Yep, you read that right. Most if us -- one-half in fact -- are actually unaware how common it is. A lot of it is related to weight and cholesterol.

The show is a moment to remember that and for women everywhere to take note: How can we take better care of ourselves and of each other?

That's a question every woman should ask every day. So take a minute, breathe to de-stress; go for a quick walk; whip up a salad. Do what you need to do to be healthy and beautiful, and ask your best friend to do it with you.

Then plan to follow more stories about this show this month on StyleList and our sister site MyDaily.com and learn more about heart health from our friends at Heart Truth.

The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection 2011 is presented by Diet Coke with national sponsor Swarovski and partners Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and AOL.

Natalie Portman Golden Globes Dress - Controversy!

Frazer Harrison, Getty Images

Natalie Portman is one of our style favorites -- she wears clothes so well. In fact, we expect her to rule this red-carpet season.

But her Golden Globes gown choice -- a Viktor & Rolf pink strapless gown with the big red rose smack in front -- had our room and a great deal of the Twittersphere buzzing.

It was a sweet color. The floaty layers were adorable. Its empire waist was perfect for Portman's tiny pregnant tummy. And no one could deny she was pretty, especially as she accepted the award for Best Actress.

But some called the big red rose at the dress's bustline "horrible." One said it might make her cry. "Natalie Portman looked so glowing and gorgeous. Somehow though her dress reminded me of a Valentine's Day chocolate box," tweeted one watcher.

Others loved it and said the rose was endearing and lovely. "I like it. It's different and doesn't play it safe," said @sunkistdaisy when we took a quick poll.

Accessorized with a bright-red bag and red high-heel shoes (be careful, you are with child!), her look definitely gets our vote for the riskiest look of all those on the carpet. What did you think of it?

On a more positive note, check out this roundup of Natalie's best style moments.
