Eve Rocks the Red Dress for Heart Truth

Damon Dahlen, AOL

"Red is a new color in my life!" said Eve, moments after her first Red Dress fitting at designer David Meister's New York studio.

The musician and actress will be taking the runway tomorrow night at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for the Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection fashion show, which stars other famous catwalkers like Suzanne Somers, who spoke to StyleList on the weekend.

"I am so nervous!" Eve laughed of her debut on the runway. "Give me a mic and some music, fine. But walking down a runway -- I'm getting butterflies right now! My mom said to go to a model and get some tips, and I'm like, 'I'm definitely not going to try and be a model.' We'll see what happens!"

Luckily, all's well with the dress. Meister, who has dressed Eve in the past, sent her several sketches for the red dress in question. "She said she wanted something long and elegant but something form-fitting and sexy," Meister said.

Eve picked her favorite -- a one-shoulder mermaid gown with beading -- and it fits like a glove. "It rocks on her. It just works," said the designer. "What's great for me is when a woman puts on a dress and they smile. She put on that dress and she was totally smiling. She loved it. You know you've hit a home run then!"

"I just said when I had the dress on, 'I want to go to a ball!'" Eve laughed. "His dresses just make you feel very elegant and very ladylike. I guess after the show, I'll have to crash somebody's ball!"

The 2011 Red Dress Collection fashion show is Eve's first connection with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute -- which through the Heart Truth show raises awareness of heart disease in women -- but she's taking her responsibilities as an ambassador of all things red very seriously.

"I've been wearing red lipstick, buying red scarves -- it's a great accent color. I'm usually just in black, white and gray, but there are so many shades of red -- and any woman can wear red."

Her advice to ladies looking to sport the shade? "Find what's comfortable for you," she said. "It may be a scarf, it may be nail polish, it may be lipstick. Please find the right shade of lipstick, though, because you can embarrass yourself!"

Of course, Heart Truth is not just about a fabulous red dress. "A lot of women don't know a lot about it. I didn't know a lot about heart disease," Eve admitted. "It's the number one killer of women, and that's a very scary thing. I don't smoke, but I did when I was younger, and to hear that that's the kind of stuff that contributes to heart disease, it's scary."

"And to be able to walk in a beautiful dress to raise awareness for heart disease, why not?" she continued. "If it's something I can do to educate even just the women in my family, I think it's a great thing."

For Meister, heart disease is an issue that's also close to his heart. "My grandfather had his first heart attack at 39," the designer said. "Women know their shoe size, they know their dress size, but they don't know the numbers related to the health of their heart."

The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection show will take place Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Lincoln Center.

Ashton Kutcher Praises Natalie Portman at 'No Strings Attached'

"I'm not the star of this film," insisted Ashton Kutcher at the Cinema Society screening of his just-opened film, "No Strings Attached." "Natalie Portman is an absolute rock star, and for me, this film was an opportunity to star with Natalie Portman."

The rock star in question may have been absent from the screening -- she is several months pregnant, after all -- but that didn't stop stars of both the cinematic and stylish varieties from coming out to the Tribeca Grand for the event.

Donna Karan, a longtime friend of Kutcher's and his wife, Demi Moore, offered her DKNY Jeans brand as a sponsor of the evening, with fellow designers Rachel Roy, Nicole Miller, and even Theory's Olivier Theyskens turning up to catch a peek at the Kutcher-Moore duo.

On the celeb front, Gabourey Sidibe, Olivia Palermo, and Kelsey Grammer (with daughter Spencer and fiancée Kayte Walsh) caught Soho Grand afterparty, sponsored by DeLeón Tequila.

"Ashton is so handsome and sweet. He's a really good guy," gushed Kutcher's hilarious co-star in the film, Greta Gerwig. In the film, Gerwig's character is Natalie Portman's best friend, and she's also dating Kutcher's best friend -- a foursome that was familiar to the actress. "In college, me and my roommate were dating two guys who were also roommates. It was very convenient for everyone involved!" She laughed. "And, neither one of us broke up until after college. We stayed together the whole time, so all the messiness was afterward."

Gerwig stayed true to the evening's sponsor by sporting a Donna Karan coated lace minidress. "It doesn't look like what I think of when I think of Donna Karan," she said. "It's a little punkier. There's like rubber on it! I thought it was really cool."

Saturday Night Live darling (and current Fred Armisen squeeze) Abby Elliott, 23, sporting Topshop and hot pink pumps, dished on her role in the film as well: "My character works in the restaurant where Ashton and his buddies come a lot. He ends up hooking up with her one night, but she's with another girl that she likes a little more than him!" There was no chance of her character becoming the Friend With Benefits, she explained: "I'm a lesbian in this movie!"

Winter Style at NYC 'Blue Valentine' Preview

Celebrities bundled up on a frigid New York night for a preview screening of "Blue Valentine." But the film's star, Michelle Williams, told us she chose a flirty white Dior minidress... because of her haircut?

Her new pixie cut may have earned a universal thumbs-up, but the actress said it means she has to rethink her outfits. "You can't wear (things like) a blazer anymore, which rules out half my wardrobe," she laughed. "It starts to look too tough!"

Snow flurried outside the screening sponsored by the Cinema Society and Piaget, attended by guests like Joan Rivers, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Gabourey Sidibe and the film's director, Derek Cianfrance. Rivers was characteristically frank about her animal insulation.

"They all died a long time ago, and if they died, they should not have died in vain," she declared of the not one, but two furs she arrived wearing. "When it's cold, you understand the Eskimos!"

Victoria's Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio, sporting Cavalli sequins and a leather Elise Øverland trench, had her own tactics for braving the cold. "Warm dresses, cashmere, something sparkling! I definitely dress more festive during the holidays!"

Both Williams and co-star Ryan Gosling received Golden Globe nominations this morning for the film. It follows the couple through two stages of their lives: young and in love, and older and, well, not quite as in love.

The film may get bluer as it goes along, but Ambrosio shared with us a happier memory.

"The best Valentine I ever had was when I was pregnant and my fiancé took me to have chocolate fondue. As pregnant as I was, all I wanted to do was eat!" she laughed. "Another time, he played all the songs from Pearl Jam, which is my favorite band. He serenaded me!"

'Somewhere' Showcases L.A. Style

"I have one problem with Elle," admitted Stephen Dorff of his "Somewhere" co-star, 12-year-old burgeoning "it" girl Elle Fanning.

"She's nearly perfect, but she's just growing too tall. I'm not the tallest guy, and she's like 6 feet tall in heels, so it feels like the time I went out with a supermodel (Milla Jovovich) years ago," said Dorff, who was wearing Tom Ford. "I feel like Mini-Me sometimes on the red carpet with her."

Of course, at last night's screening of Sofia Coppola's film at the Tribeca Grand, Fanning's 5-inch Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte wedges probably didn't help her cause with Dorff.

"I was asking Elle, 'How are you losing your baby teeth now? You're already so tall?'" Dorff continued. "She said, 'I know, but I can't slow down!'"

Fanning (whose sister, Dakota, 16, is another young starlet) is taking it in stride. While others might get a big head about joining the ranks of Coppola's other leading ladies like Scarlett Johansson or Kirsten Dunst (who was at the screening), Fanning's charming youthfulness is winning her rave reviews across the board.

Like her sister before her, the fashion world has embraced the younger Fanning; her ensemble for the screening was custom-created by Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy. "They made this for me, which was just incredible!" raved Fanning of her gold minidress.

"I love them so much. I did a magazine shoot with them that was all their clothes, and after that I just appeared in a little short movie for their Spring 2011 collection." Step aside, Tavi -- we sense a new muse!

Molly Shannon, Parker Posey, Anna Sui, and James Franco and Marina Abramovic (who arrived together) took their seats in the theater for the film, which follows Chateau Marmont-living movie star Dorff as he embraces his newfound role as a father to Fanning. Dorff prepared for the role by picking up Fanning from school, attending her volleyball games, and taking her on Pinkberry and Color Me Mine dates.

"I might have been a little homesick about American culture," said Coppola, dressed in Louis Vuitton, of the film's third major character: Los Angeles. "I was living in Paris after 'Marie Antoinette,' and I always like to write about some place distant from where I am. When I was in L.A., I wrote about Japan and France (in 'Lost in Translation' and 'Marie Antoinette,' respectively), so I like having that distance. There were a lot of stories in the tabloids about successful movie star guys, so I was thinking about that world, and seeing pictures of the Chateau Marmont made me think of when I had lived there."

Of course, the evening's New York audience invited the question: Would Coppola ever make a movie about the Big Apple? "I'd probably have to live further away!"

Calvin, Marc & Narciso Bear Gifts at David Barton Toy Drive

Seth Browarnik, Startraks

Christmas came early in New York's Astor Place on Friday night, as several of fashion's top names co-hosted gym owner David Barton's 10th annual charity toy drive.

"This kicks off the holiday season -- now I really feel like we're in the holiday spirit!" co-host Calvin Klein told us after stashing his gifts under the tree. "David always does this, and I think it's so important that the gym becomes a vehicle for everyone to come together."

Klein's fellow hosts were designer Narciso Rodriguez (who had something to tell us -- read on!); top fashion photographer Steven Klein; hotelier Andre Balazs; Barton's (ex-ish, we're never quite sure) wife, nightlife promoter Suzanne Bartsch; and Marc Jacobs, who arrived with an entourage of strapping young men toting Marc Jacobs shopping bags.

"I'm much happier giving them away," Jacobs assured StyleList of his stash, which included Barbies, a Radio Flyer wagon, a globe, Lego and a Nintendo DS, to name just a few. But though his gifts were many, the designer admitted that his childhood toy needs were limited: "[When I was a kid] I liked to draw, so I was always happy with just paper and pencil."

Abigail Breslin, at just 14, had a harder time parting with the presents she brought for the occasion. "That baby doll -- I was inches away from buying one for myself!" she laughed. "I'm probably going to ask for that for Christmas!"

Club-kid designer Richie Rich's Christmas list was concise: "I really don't want much," he said, "just a manicure that never chips."

Of his holiday wish list, Rodriguez pointed to significant other Thomas Tolan and ventured, "A diamond engagement ring?" Hint, hint...

Of course, this being the holidays, StyleList had to ask Barton himself for his best stay-fit tips during this season of overindulgence. "Don't stop working out all of December and then try to kill it on Jan. 2," the gym guru advised.

"Try to get a couple workouts in the week, even if you're eating and drinking. Listen: Eat, drink, be merry, party your brains out -- but come to the gym. Everything in balance. A little pumpkin pie here and there never hurt anyone!"

This year, Barton's toy drive benefited St. Vincent's Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital Pediatric HIV Program, New York Presbyterian Pediatric Studies, the Family Care Center of Harlem Hospital and other children's organizations.
