Fall's Most Wanted Nail Polishes

Like killer shoes or the right bag, a haute mani gives validation to the rest of an ensemble.

Pick the right one - like Chanel's Jade, which the company created to enhance the threads in its fall tweed, pictured below - and suddenly any outfit has the potential to become that coveted thing known as "A Look." No wonder designers and their hired nail gurus labor over which season's shades are right for the runway.

Check out the shades that made the cut this fall, below, and see another hot fall beauty trend (hint, it's totally tubular) here.

Long Waves Are Here To Stay

It may not be trendy, but long, wavy hair is still the style of choice for stars like Demi Moore, Eva Longoria and Fergie (left to right). Photos: Getty Images

Long hair just doesn't get the headlines it used to.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes, Agyness Deyn and Rihanna's short, sharp haircuts each got so much press and fashion props, that recently, those with long, painstakingly grown hair (myself included) have had good reason to wonder if our looks were looking a little too early Nineties. Seriously, someone asked me if I was wearing extensions a few months ago. Ouch.

But each time I think about getting the chop in order to keep my look current, I realize that long hair isn't going anywhere.

Well, she already has the booty.

Kim Kardashian showed what a damn good Jennifer Lopez impression she can do, as evidenced by her appearance at the 2009 "Teen Choice Awards."

With her updated hair and makeup, she emitted the same J. Lo glow that made the singer/actress/paparazzi magnet such a beauty icon.

So what does it take to look like J.Lo, version 2.0? Perfectly smooth, golden highlighted hair certainly helps, but really, it's all about the makeup: Bronzed skin, peachy lips and cheeks, light eye makeup and major eyelashes are the hallmarks of the look, and she nailed each element with precision.

Could it be? Are Viktor & Rolf courting the masses?

Die-hard fans of the avant-garde Dutch design duo may find this a bitter pill to swallow, but all signs point to "yes."

When I attended a recent press event for Viktor & Rolf's second women's fragrance, Eau Mega, I was expecting the beauty editors to be as divided as they were for V&R's first scent, Flowerbomb, a gourmand-floral explosion that's wonderfully outrageous to some, and overly obtrusive to others. That wasn't the case this time around.

Eau Mega is easy. It's a big green floral, designed to express the ultimate freshness and fluidity of water.

Enrollment is up at Empire Beauty Schools!

Seeing how well a career in corporate America has worked out for some folks, it's little surprise that the beauty and wellness industry is experience a major uptick in recruitment.

At Empire Beauty Schools, the country's biggest cosmetology educator, enrollment has increased by a whopping 33 percent since 2007. Bellus Academy and Paul Mitchell Schools are also experiencing growth, according to the New York Times.

So why this industry? Several reasons. Empire Beauty School's chief executive Frank Schoeneman suggests that some students attended college but didn't feel it prepared them for the current job market. Others sought out cosmetology as an ideal second career, which I've seen evolve into glorious and considerably more rewarding primary careers for many. (Check out this former teacher's fabulous story.)

Also, a career in beauty can be creative and stable. Can't say that about investment banking, can you?
