Rachel Roy Fall 2011 Fashion Week Backstage Beauty

Glamour on the go was the beauty motif du jour for Rachel Roy's Fall 2011 collection: hair braided with fabric, and khaki and gold eye shadows completed the look.

MAKEUP: Bobbi Brown for Bobbi Brown
HAIR: Ted Gibson for L'Oréal Professionnel
NAILS: Dana Caruso for Sally Hansen
SNAPSHOT: Effortless Chic

THE SCOOP: For Rachel Roy's Fall 2011 presentation, the designer once again offered up a capsule collection of trench coats, this time worked in denim, alongside luxe boiled wool jackets, jacquard, silk chiffon, cashmere and merino wools. The beauty elements tied very closely to the collection, literally; Ted Gibson for
L'Oréal Professionnel created "incredible braids, with the idea behind them being easy, super chic, and to incorporate Rachel's fabric into the hair."

Over in makeup, Bobbi Brown used "great fall colors, mainly a combo of gold and khaki, a little bit of '70s, graduating color from the new Tortoise palette for fall." Lips also mimicked this color family in a terracotta brown hue.

Dana Caruso for Sally Hansen worked a neutral beige color onto the models' nails in a shade created exclusively for Rachel Roy, dubbed Terracotta. This is the first time the brand has worked with Rachel Roy, and the team began working three months ahead of time to perfect the color for the show, which will now be part of the Complete Salon Manicure series and become available for sale in the fall.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: Brown first used a Creamy Concealer, and then a little bit of bronzer in Sandstone, and some blush in either Apricot or Nectar just on the apple and applied a combo of gold and khaki eye shadow, a shimmer shadow, that is green, but has quite a bit of brown in it, which makes it versatile for anybody. After the eye shadow has been applied, Bobbi added tons of the Lash Glamour Lengthening Mascara. Finally for lips, she used Lip Color in Twig, and her tip to putting on these darker shades is to do the bottom, smack the lip, and take a pencil of the same color, and run along the inside and blend.

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All products by
L'Oréal Professionnel. It takes three products, some fabric and a little creativity to get this look. Start with the L'Oréal Texture Expert Expansion Body Activating Mousse and not much of it, just to achieve texture but not volume. Follow up with Studio FX Architect Wax and use a silk blend fabric with some pliability to it to haphazardly braid into the hair. secure hair with an elastic, and the braid and fabric to the head with about five hair pins. Finish with the Infinium 2 Hairspray.

GET THE LOOK - NAILS: All you need is just two coats of the all in one color, and the Complete Salon Manicure already has a built-in topcoat. If you want to get the look sooner than later, similar colors can be found via Sally Hansen's Sweet Pea or Toffee shades.

MAKEUP: Diane Kendal for MAC Cosmetics
HAIR: Eugene Souleiman for Wella
SNAPSHOT: Boho Prep

THE SCOOP: There's a new vibe at Tommy Hilfiger for Fall 2011, and it's more of a naturally beautiful woman who knows how to work a few sexy subtleties. Case in point: the hair. Eugene Souleiman for Wella described the collection and hair look as "wild and kind of sexy. Tommy's usually a little bit perfect -- but this is the new Tommy. This is daddy's girl gone bad -- and I like it."

"Makeup is kept very clean and simple," states Diane Kendal of MAC Cosmetics. "The clothes are very Tommy, all-American." The lips are kept conditioned, but devoid of prominent color, while the skin is worked to meticulous perfection.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All products by MAC Cosmetics. Begin with the Studio Moisture Fix for moisture, and apply the Studio Finish Concealer only as needed using the No. 195 brush. Matte out the T-Zone using a Blot Powder and blush the Perfect Cheek powder just on the apples. For eyes it all starts with the Groundwork Paintpot using No. 239 brush on both eyelids, the crease of the eye, and underneath the eye. Next, apply the Copper Gloss to the eyelids, and a LipGlass in Clear on top using the No. 242 brush. Simply curl the lashes, and only apply Lip Conditioner to the lips.

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: According to Souleiman, in order to get this look, you must use the Wella Ocean Spritz on clean hair. As you are blow-drying hair, twist and spray in the Ocean Spritz, occasionally twisting the hair to add even more texture. The goal is to bring out the wisps, and don't use any spray to finish. The goal is to create a look that appears a bit messed up.

Cynthia Steffe Fall 2011 Fashion Week Backstage Beauty

MAKEUP: Jose Rivera for Sephora Beauty
HAIR: Tyler Laswell for TRESemmé
NAILS: Jin Soon Choi
SNAPSHOT: Lippin' Large

THE SCOOP: "The Cynthia Steffe Fall 2011 collection was inspired by safari, terracotta, earth tones, with modern ruffles; it's sweet and sophisticated, fun and feminine for the gal who put on her mom's clothes and wanted to dress up, but did it right," said Jose Rivera, Sephora PRO Beauty Team lead artist." Indeed, the collection showed dressier fabrics meant to be worn during the day, such as velvet, plissé satin and lamé in deep shades along with earthy neutral colors. Rivera added that the models were given a "Twiggy-esque look" with the eyes and that he updated the "classic and timeless red lip with a berry color."

Taylor Laswell, lead hair stylist for TRESemmé explained that the goal was to keep the hair "young and fresh -- since the clothes are so rich. A look that is very Blair Waldorf of 'Gossip Girl.'" The style is meant to be more youthful than sophisticated, and it's important that instead of using a round brush for an ultra-finished look, use a Mason Pearson brush for a straight finish.

Jin Son Choi, manicurist for the show went with a very pale beige color, as she didn't want to have anything clashing or competing with the berry lip hue, but still wanted to be youthful and sophisticated.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: Start with the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, followed by Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover concealer. For youthful skin, layer Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder and Sephora Collection Matteifying Compact Foundation as needed. "The goal is to make it translucent, so that it doesn't cover you, just what you don't want people to see," says Rivera. Finish the face with the Smashbox Bronz Lights to illuminate the youthful aesthetic.

Moving onto eyes, assertively apply the Sephora Collection Nano Eyeliner 01 in Midnight Black, followed by Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in Beige 76 and layer Buxom Buxom Stay-There Eye Shadow in Mutt and Pug. Last, add TARINA TARANTINO Dollskin Cheek in Filigree as the final layer, and finish eyes with Buxom Buxom Lash, as it enhances every single lash.

Lips are a combination of several elements, starting with the Sephora Collection Nano Lip Liner in 09 Pleasant Plum. Start with the liner in the middle of the lip, working outward, and blend well with a lip brush. Add Sephora Collection Shimmer Harmony Gloss Palette on top (in the darkest hue on the left), and then finish with adding the Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Homegirl just in the middle. The goal is to create a lip that looks like you were just sucking on a Popsicle.

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All products by TRESemmé. Prep hair with 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse, flip head upside down and blow-dry to create fluff using a Mason Pearson brush. Flip right side up and create a deep right-side part, but give hair a few seconds to let it fall more naturally once parted. At this point, iron only if the hair has a courser, rougher texture. Conclude the look with Climate Control Finishing Spray.

GET THE LOOK - NAILS: Add one coat of Joe Fresh nail color in Latte Latte, followed by Estée Lauder Pure Color instant Finish Quick-Dry Topcoat.

Erin Fetherston Fall 2011 Fashion Week Backstage Beauty

MAKEUP: Lucia Pica for MAC Cosmetics
HAIR: Odile for Catwalk by TIGI
NAILS: Pattie Yankie for Dashing Diva
    SNAPSHOT: Modern Forest Nympth

THE SCOOP: "Erin wanted this girl to look sort of fairy-tale like, ethereal and woodland, so we created a skin that is very glowy, shimmery and soft," explained Lucia Pica, MAC Cosmetics key makeup stylist for the Erin Fetherston Fall 2011 show. The clothes and beauty truly mimicked each other with metallic hues alongside sophisticated creams and blush pinks. Regarding the process to create this look, Pica said, "Erin is thinking about the inspiration for the collection, and we discuss it. But the Erin Fetherston woman is quite defined, which makes it really easy for us to create the look!"

Odile for Catwalk by TIGI offered that her look was comprised of "lots of braids, romantic, fluffy, baby hair, but maybe very romantic, very girly, was what Erin wanted." With multiple braids around the head interlaced with metallic thread and a chignon carefully tucked underneath, this look was quite stunning and memorable.

Pattie Yankee of Dashing Diva went with what would best match the predominant pink shades in the collection, so she went with a shade of pink that gave off a heavy yet sheer iridescent pink shimmer. As it's already day three of New York Fashion Week, Yankee recommends that models (and anyone who could use it) treat their hands with a cuticle oil, such as Dashing Diva's Cuticle Nectar, and massage it in well for full moisturizing effects.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All products from MAC Cosmetics. Create the base with the Face + Body Foundation in N1 for a dreamy, light effect. Follow up with Luminous Highlights Cream Colour Base in Shell and layer Pink Opal Pigment on top of the Shell to highlight. Last, secure the skin's look with Promixing Medium Shine on top to add a final, glossy texture to the facial features. Moving to the eye area, the brows were initially lightened with concealer, while the eyelids were constructed via Dark Brown Cream Colour on the top and bottom under-eye area. 3D Gold Glitter was then swiped under and around the eye, being sure to do the inner corner, and blending it out from there. Eyelashes are curled, but no mascara is used. For lips, a concoction of three shades was combined in different parts of the lip for the look to be matte on the outside corners, moisturizing on the inside of the lip. Pair Princess Magenta with Deep Purple and finish over top with White Paint Stick.

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All products via Catwalk by TIGI. We luckily got some great tips and a modified version to do at home for this multiple-braided look, as the original version consists of extensions (which you still may need to do for one braid or both if your hair isn't long enough. Simply braid and pin in place around the head). Volume is the key to the look, so be sure to use a lot of the Curlesque Lightweight Mousse. Add in Superstar Queen for a Day Spray Thickening Spray to guarantee volume and texture. Once hair is prepped with the two products, create two braids, starting at the back of the head, bring forward and pin throughout. For the chignon, pull back the hair in the back, underneath section, twist and pin. Seal the style with Sleek Mystique Hairspray.
