Chanel Makeup Confidential Site Launches

Chanel Makeup Confidential

Experience all things Chanel makeup on their new website. Photo: Chanel Makeup Confidential

As if we don't already covet anything and everything Chanel, the esteemed fashion house launches their Chanel Makeup Confidential site for a look inside the beauty line.

If you have any questions at all about the Spring 2011 collection Les Perles De Chanel, they're answered right here. With features that include everything from a quirky short on the brand's iconic packaging to an interview with Chanel Makeup's Creative Director Peter Philips, the site is both fun and informative.

Especially helpful is the tutorial from makeup artist Lisa Eldridge on how to apply the new season's face. She applies product so effortlessly and flawlessly we're pretty convinced that even with our 10 fingers achieving an intense, yet pearly smoky eye is possible with Chanel makeup. We can't help but liken her to being the Nigella Lawson of the makeup studio -- British, sexy and eager to share her secrets.

Now pardon us, we're off to order that rockin' new Black Pearl nail polish shade, among a few other things.

In other Chanel news, take a look at how Keira Knightley reinvents herself as Coco Mademoiselle in a short film.

Not one to let others dictate her style, the actress continues to evolve her beauty look and seemingly refuses to hide behind those signature spirals that first made her famous. As Russell celebrates her 35th birthday today (March 23), StyleList takes a look back at her beauty evolution.

Lady Gaga Manicure: Nail Artist Making House Calls

Stuck in a manicure rut? Hair Room Service by Michael Dueñas has the answer: a house call by none other than Aya Fukuda, the nail guru who designed Lady Gaga's "paws" for her "Born This Way" video.

"When I designed Lady Gaga's nails for 'Born This Way,' I was inspired by her eccentric yet glamorous style," says Fukuda. "Designing nails for her is really fun and truly a piece of art. The nail incorporated Swarovski crystals in jet color and silver metal, with a vibrant red and black polish from Priti NYC. All this was encompassed on a longer, almond nail-shaped tip. I am excited to now share this art with the rest of NYC by providing house calls throughout the city."

With prices starting as low as $65, Fukuda is ready to whip nails into their own unique masterpieces in the comfort of your own New York City home, office or, if you happen to be doing the touristy thing, hotel.

Hair Room Service also offers hair, makeup and personal styling services if you really want to live the glamorous lifestyle. And as an added bonus, if you book a service with nails, you'll receive a 10 percent discount until April 30, 2011.

The Makeup Show L.A. Sets the Stage for Pretty Product Launches

When the Makeup Show 2011 descended upon Los Angeles, it was like Shangri-La for both professional and amateur makeup artists as well as cosmetics junkies looking to score their latest fix of hot new beauty products and cult favorites.

From Yves Saint Laurent's classic line to the burgeoning beauty wares of companies like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC), there was enough at The Makeup Show L.A. to make any makeup enthusiast's heart skip a beat. And nothing was more fun than catching a glimpse of the latest and greatest in products that prettify.

Stila introduced its Spring 2011 collection that flaunted the theme "Light Up the World" and included a selection of items to help every woman create an ethereal glow.

The company's best-selling eye shadow shade, Kitten, was the inspiration for an All Over Shimmer Duo that acts as a highlighter, shadow and décolleté powder in one sleek compact and a Glitter Eye Liner, both using the same feline-friendly name. Coconut Crush joins the Stila family of Lip & Cheek Stains providing a bronze, rose-gold hue, while a Silk Shimmer Gloss in Sunlight has been added to the collection for anyone looking for a shiny, bronze pout.

However, the standout items from the Spring 2011 collection are two eye shadow Trios: Ethereal includes a shimmery pale-pinky tan, a light mauve-gray accented by silver shimmer and a dark-brown hue with a touch of gold pearl, while Gilded boasts a delicate wheat shade with shimmer, a deep gold with additional sparkle and an opulent espresso that also has a hint of gold.

Temptu, the go-to brand for professional and at-home airbrushing, introduced its new S/B Multi Colors in 12 shades, for those tech-savvy makeup mavens who are looking to expand their airbrushing beyond simply foundation.

"There are 10 matte shades and two shimmers," explains Ava Scanlan, director of public relations for Temptu. "Airbrush makeup has become so popular and traditionally people have really only been airbrushing foundation, and maybe blush. But because of its popularity, we had a lot of consumer demand for more blush colors and now there has been demand for eye shadows. You can mix the shimmers and the mattes if you want your matte to have shimmer. You can also create colors. They range from blues to greens to grays."

Make Up For Ever wants to help you achieve that lit-from-within look with its hotly anticipated Uplight, a face luminizer gel that will be available shortly in the months ahead in eight different shades and three effects, including silky, pearly and sparkling. The gel contains reflecting pigments, which help to diffuse light, giving the appearance of a gorgeous complexion.

Over at the OCC booth, reps were hyping the Spring-Summer 2011 collection, called LO-FI with six new Lip Tars, Loose Colours and nail lacquers.

"The New York runways were definitely geared towards a more neutral, fleshy lip," says makeup artist and OCC founder David Klasfeld. "Not nude, not that concealer look, a little bit of color, but the attention is really diverted to the eyes, really soft, smoky eyes done with darker shades. It doesn't have to be done with blacks and grays. We have a darker plum color that we came out with and a really subtle mossy green, so incorporating a little bit of color but still keeping the look wearable. For everyday, you don't want to go out there with vivid, bright color on the eyes, but an unexpected twist of color into a smoky eye can be really pretty."

The brand's Lip Tars have generated a lot of buzz for OCC, which is a 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free line, and two new shades to make note of are Interlace, which was used on the dancers in Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" video, and Analog, to achieve the aforementioned neutral lip.

"For lighter to medium tone skin, Interlace is definitely selling like hotcakes here (at the Makeup Show)," says Klasfeld. "It's a real peachy neutral. For darker skin, we came out with a color called Analog that's more of a golden brown, and it's really the same look on different skin tones. It gives that same fleshy lip with just enough color."

Neutral lips weren't the only trend to hit the Fall 2011 Fashion Week runway, StyleList highlights others, including red eyes and outside-the-lines eye liner.
