Refinery 29 Has the Fashion Week Scoop

We had a lot of Fashion Week coverage here at StyleList, but our friends over at Refinery 29 got some really scrumptious on-the-scene scoop that you don't want to miss!

Erin Wasson threw a wild party - Alexander Wang bailed on on throwing a bash this year, but his former muse, Erin Wasson, stepped up to the party plate like the pro, and celebrated her new collection for RVCA.

Phillip Lim took a chance - The designer tried out some new looks, which were a far cry from his usual classics. Refinery 29 is wondering who's going to buy it.

Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti had a star-studded show - The crowd, filled with celebs like Peaches Geldof and Amanda Peet, might've been more impressive than the clothes, but maybe it didn't matter -- everyone was too busy having fun to notice.

Alexandre Herchcovitch got all two-faced - Part of his show was full of volume and color, with beaded dresses that were questionable winter wear, but the second half was comprised of an entirely different look. Which half do you think was the winner? Check it out.

Talk about inspiration - Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte shared what really gets her creative juices going (and we hope you weren't expecting classic piano and butterflies!).

Trovata Sports a Prep School Look - Reminiscent of "Gossip Girl," the show featured schoolgirl skirts and ribbon details -- Blair Waldorf would be proud.

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Yigal Azroul is Brooding But Enchanting

By Kelley Hoffman, Photos by Olivia Jade Horner for Refinery 29

At the Yigal Azrouël f/w show, we caught up with Olivier Zahm, and inquired about his latest DVF/Margiela Purple cover. Why was he drawn to the blonde wig coat? "I think it is ... hysterical. It is totally hysterical," he said with a grin, as Yigal-clad Waris came up to the editor and the two exchanged a serious man hug.

Also front row was Genevieve Jones, sporting a Dolce & Gabbana frock and her own gold, safety pin-inspired earrings, who said she was at the show to support her friend Pamela Love, the designer of the African-inspired jewelry pieces for Yigal's f/w collection. When we asked Pamela about her outfit, she laughed, "I'm wearing Yigal pants, the rest is crap." Well, if that's true of a vintage Black Flag tee, a vegan leather jacket, and hoards of her own fantastic jewelry, then we say crap is the new black!

The show, styled by Kate Young, featured girls that seemed a bit brooding, but all enchanting, in smoky eye makeup in a tough, yet coy attitude. Bold silhouettes paired with feminine details, ruled the show, and our top three favorite pieces included a geometric jacquard coat, a purple one-sleeved party dress, and a black Heishi beaded bolero. Loved.

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Rag & Bone's Recession-Proof Collection

By Xiyin Tang for Refinery 29

Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, the pretty boys behind pretty-tough label Rag & Bone, always draws a good crowd. The front row last night at their fall '09 show was no exception. Spotted among the crush of fans jostling to get into Cedar Lake was Jimmy Fallon (at what would be, he told us, his "only show of the season"), Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Becki Newton, Rose Byrne, and Rachel Zoe, to name just a few.

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Jason Wu Makes Pretty Clothes For First Ladies and Uptown Divas

By Xiyin Tang for Refinery 29

The buzz around Jason Wu this season has reached a fever pitch, no doubt because of a certain Mrs. O. And while the First Lady was not in attendance at the designer's show, there were plenty of other tastemakers on the scene, including Lynn Yaeger and Kate Lanphear. But onto the clothes: Lots of pretty cocktail frocks and gowns, including a stunning navy silk tulle number worn by Karlie Kloss (we can already see Michelle glamming it up in at a black tie gala). Heading to more adventurous territory, there were the feathered vests and skirts, which would look right at home on front-row attendee Olivia Palermo. We caught The City star for a brief chat after the show, in which she clued us in on her Fashion Week routine. Does it involve a special manicure or a trip to the dermatologist? Nope. "I get ready the same way I get ready every other day," the Uptown girl said. Alright, but that's because "every other day" involves three hours of beauty prep time for the MTV camera ... right?
