Ethereal beauty reigns this summer as naturally rumpled hair is accentuated with romantic headbands.

Actresses Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry and Analeigh Tipton have recently been spotted wearing Roman-esque hair accessories. And backstage fixture Guido Palau wielded light-reflecting floral diadems to finish models' locks at the Valentino Haute Couture Fall 2011-2012 fashion show.

"Anytime you wear something metallic in your hair, it brings light to your face and a sparkle to your eyes," according to celebrity hair stylist Nathaniel Hawkins. "It's like wearing diamond earrings."

Mara Roszak, who has styled the famous manes of Mila Kunis, Jessica Biel, Zoe Saldana and Emma Stone agrees. For the Moscow premiere of "Friends With Benefits," Roszak added a bit of edge to Kunis' tousled updo with a chain headband.

"Metallic is young and fresh, but also very classic. It's easy to accessorize with...it can compliment pretty much outfit."

Take a cue from the runway and the red carpet and rock this trend with strands that aren't super shiny or straight.

Hawkins adds, "Use a little bit of KMS Sea Salt Spray at your roots or Aveda's Pure Abundance Hair Potion to create texture so the headband can hold on hair."

Want to recreate this look at home? Follow Hawkins' step-by-step instructions for two simple, yet sophisticated styles:
Look 1: Using just your fingers, comb your hair back into a low ponytail. Take the length of the ponytail and loosely braid. Pull out the sides of the braid and then twist into a soft bun. Then pin to secure. Set headband into place and pin if needed.
Look 2: Use a salt spray or curl enhancing cream in damp hair and scrunch as much wave or curl as you can into your hair. Once dry, softly pull your hair back with just your fingers into a ponytail in the center back of your head. Place your headband onto your head and pin to secure. Now take sections of hair from the ponytail and lightly twist. While holding the section at the end gently fold the hair towards your head and pin into place. Do this to the entire ponytail for a very soft updo.

Roszak and Hawkins' final pro pointers:
o. When accessorizing with headbands, make sure they don't take over a style but compliment it! Less is more.
o. Keep the overall look soft and loose. Do not create height in front of the headband and use hairspray sparingly.
o. Allow natural shorter pieces to fall out of the style and only use your fingers to comb the hairstyle in place.

What do you think of romantic headbands?

The temperatures may be going up, but long-haired ladies are letting their locks down in side-swept waves.

Megan Fox, Salma Hayek, Diane Kruger and Rosario Dawson are all known for riding the wave on the red carpet. We've spotted more one-shoulder strands lately while clicking through some of our favorite street style blogs like The Sartorialist and Face Hunter. And we were still suffering from major hair envy after spotting soft, side curls backstage at Catherine Malandrino's Fall 2011 fashion show.

"I think there is something incredibly feminine about side-swept waves," says Adir Abergel, lead stylist for Frederic Fekkai. "It is a very simple style that most women can wear. It is also an easy hairstyle that allows you to go out at night without looking overdone, yet it elevates your look into something special."

Follow Abergel's five steps to recreate this simple, yet elegant hairdo:
1. Prep the hair, using a volumizer like Frederic Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel and smooth it all over the root of the hair.
2. Blow dry the hair completely using a round brush.
3. Roll the hair around a curling iron, leaving strands onto the iron on for no longer than five to 10 seconds to create more of a wave than a curl. If your hair is just below the shoulders, use a 1-inch curling iron, but if it is any longer than that use a 1 &frac14;-inch iron instead.
4. Spray on a little Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray so the wave has a memory and sets.
5. Finish by sweeping the hair over to one side and pin it to stay in place.

Pressed for time? Abergel recommends skipping the round brush when drying hair to create a more natural texture before curling.

Would you wear side-swept waves during the warm-weather months? Or do you prefer to keep your hair off your neck?

In honor of her famous pixie cut, we rounded up some of the best pixies in Hollywood history. Don't call it a comeback!

Dip-dye hair reminiscent of the bold manes grunge girls rocked in the '90s has grown increasingly fashionable. However, this look is no longer reserved for the rough and tough as rainbow-colored hair has made its way to the runway (Proenza Schouler Spring 2010 and Jeremy Scott Fall 2011) and the red carpet (Katy Perry, Drew Barrymore and Lauren Conrad).

Celebrity hair colorist and Wella ambassador Aura Friedman, who has styled the locks of Lady Gaga, MIA and Sky Ferreira, believes there are three distinct reasons behind this tress resurgence.

"One: Lady Gaga has helped open mainstream people to the idea of unusual colored hair; two: the use of colored pieces and wigs in many editorial stories in all magazines and amongst many celebrities; and three: the DIY aspect. When I do a fun color on my client's pre-lighted hair, I will mix some of the direct dye color with conditioner and give it to them to take home as a refresher," Friedman explained

Manic Panic is still the go-to hair dye among the neon-haired set, but like any professional, Friedman suggests sitting down in a stylist's chair to get this 'do. "The grunge days in the '90s, everyone did their hair themselves, which led to a lot of mishaps and extremely dry hair texture," she said.

To perfect this "pretty complicated" look, she starts with lightening the ends to mid-shaft area of the hair. Friedman's painting technique consists of Wella Professionals' Blondor Extra Cool Blonde Powder with at least 40 volume peroxide and 3D Color Effects. Saran wrap is her simple, yet smart trick to separate sections that are different colors.

Friedman's final words of advice on how to maintain this electrifying hairstyle: "Wear a hat and try to avoid washing often. Use Wella's new Brilliance shampoo, conditioner, and treatment mask once a week -- this will protect your color and keep your hair smooth and shiny."

What do you think about the dip-dye hair trend? Would you wear multi-colored strands?

Bored with your hairdo? Take a cue from celebrities like Leighton Meester, Kelly Rowland and Nicole Kidman who have recently transformed their tresses thanks to brow-grazing bangs.

"Bangs are a great way to update your look without sacrificing length off your ends," according to celebrity hairstylist and Nexxus creative director Kevin Mancuso. "The addition of thick, blunt fringe immediately draws focus to your eyes and emphasizes your bone structure."

Follow Mancuso eight simple steps to recreate this bangin' style at home:
1. Start by applying Nexxus Thermal Volume Volumizing Heat Protection Mousse directly to damp hair to create body and protect strands from heat damage.
2. Press mousse into hair from roots to ends for all-over volume and textured hold making sure to include the bangs.
3. Pin bangs to the side and create a middle part. Then use a large round brush to blow dry the rest of your hair.
4. Make sure bangs are still damp before styling. If they have dried a bit, mist them with water prior to blow drying. This will ensure there are no unwanted kinks in the bangs and also help set the style.
5. Curl bangs over the round brush and blow dry on low, bending ends slightly under for a flattering, face-framing shape.
6. Release the rest of hair from the pins.
7. Place the round brush under the bangs and lightly mist hair with Nexxus Comb Thru Natural Design and Finishing Mist for flexible hold and glossy shine.
8. Roll the brush slightly under as you remove it from the bangs to smooth hair.

See which summer hair trend that has stars going to great lengths, and you'll never guess which makeup artist feels "naked" without her bangs!

There's not too many things in this world that can rile a woman up like a negative comment on her hair. Oprah Winfrey's hairstylist Andre Walker is facing heat beyond the hot comb for his statements from a recent Elle interview where he discussed the styling and care of kinky hair (read: highly-textured, curly strands).

In the article, Walker encourages loving what you've got on top, but then goes on to say, "Kinky hair can have limited styling options; that's the only hair type that I suggest altering with professional relaxing."

Say what?

I wasn't the only natural hair rocking young woman who was taken aback by the professional's statement, especially since Walker has a curly coif himself. As Jezebel Senior Editor Dodai Stewart reported, readers took to Elle.com's comments section to unleash their thoughts.

One commenter wrote:
"I, too, was offended with the statement on natural hair. When I stopped wrestling with my daughter's kinks, a whole new world of styling options opened up to us. It wasn't about making ponytails in different sections and putting on new barrettes. Now she wears an afro, frohawk, twists, straw curls, etc. and we're both much happier. Mr. Walker just went down a notch in my eyes."

Another upset reader revealed:
"I personally do not find that it limits my styling options in the least nor is it any more difficult to manage than any other texture of hair once one is properly educated. *SMH* Maybe Oprah would have embraced her natural hair texture had she had a more open minded stylist."

Walker shortly after took to his blog to clarify his perspective on kinky hair writing:
"When it comes to curly and kinky hair (there is a difference), I leave the political correctness of "going straight" or staying natural to a woman's personal preference. Once again, my advice is based on how to best achieve strong, healthy hair. So for those who would like to engage me in a debate about who has more racial pride and self esteem, based on hairstyle preference and use or non-use of chemical relaxers, know that I believe in personal freedom, and in the use of advanced technology when it yields positive results, which many of today's (versus yesterday's) chemical relaxers do deliver."

As the mane man to a media mogul (whose hair is not naturally straight) and with a plethora of natural hair bloggers like Patrice of Afrobella.com, Mae of NaturalChica.com and the curly-haired duo, Michelle and Gretchen, behind NaturallyCurly.com enlightening us with their tress-formation, you'd think Walker would have enough knowledge to make it clear to Elle that the possibilities of styling kinky hair are indeed limitless and that you aren't bound to short, unhealthy strands because this hair type tends to break easily.

What do you think about the kinky hair "debate"? Do you agree or disagree with Walker's statements?
Summer is great and all, but sometimes the weather is just too hot, unbearable and frizz-inducing for a "down day." All you can manage to do is scrape back your hair and just forget about it. Keep it simple -- and sleek -- with these gleamy-smooth shine products. If your hair is longer, pull it into a neat ponytail or ballerina bun; or if you have a short pixie cut, just refer to the always amazing-looking Emma Watson.
What We're Trying Now: Slicked-Back Hair originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 30 Jun 2011 13:00:00 EST. Minka Kelly was spotted riding the wave at Salvatore Ferragamo's Women's Resort Collection show in New York City yesterday. Her full-bodied, brunette strands flowed freely onto her LBD and paired well with a sun-kissed glow.

Dove celebrity stylist Mark Townsend perfected Kelly's ultra-luxe look. Read on for his step-by-step instructions to get this wavy style at home.

Apply a few drops of Dove Nourishing Oil Care Serum on damp hair to hydrate and smooth. Then work Dove Body and Lift Mousse throughout before blow drying with hands.

Once hair is dry, take three inch sections of your hair and spray it with Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray. Wrap strands around a 1 and a half-inch curling iron to create sexy waves. Then liberally spritz on a dry texture spray (flip head upside down to reach underneath), giving hair a great second-day feel.

Finish with Dove Extra Hold Hairspray to keep waves in place.

The ballerina bun is a classic style because it is effortless and shows off the natural beauty of a woman, according to TRESemmé celebrity stylist Jeanie Syfu.

But we can't help but wonder if "Black Swan" influenced the hairstyles seen on the Spring 2011 runways of Sophie Théallet, Rebecca Taylor, Adam and Tadashi Shoji, or if stars like Diane Kruger, Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Lopez wanted to put their spin on Natalie Portman's bold bun.

Syfu admits that she hasn't noticed an upsurge in celebrities sporting knots since the ballet thriller hit theaters, however she does believe that the style has transformed over the decades. "There are many different versions -- messy, to the side, top of the head, with a pompadour or sleek. But it also has a lot to do with how styling products have evolved from the '50s and '60s when buns were over-styled and stiff."

So what's this pro's trick to perfecting a ballerina bun? Her secret lies in the setup.

"Before putting your hair up, always work some type of styling product in to create a strong foundation so your bun doesn't lose its structure. I find blow drying the hair in the direction of where you want the bun to sit allows for more control, whether it be a messy bun done with your fingers or a sleek bun using a flat boar bristle brush," says Syfu. "When gathering the hair into an elastic, make sure to keep your head upright to avoid a sagging bun at the nape of your neck."

Syfu's final words of advice: make the look personal.

"There's no right or wrong way to style it for day and night," she adds. "I would keep in mind what you are wearing and since this hairstyle is putting attention to your face, try to emphasize one feature like a pretty lip, groomed strong eyebrows, lightly contoured cheekbones or a sultry, smoky eye."

When I first heard that celebrity stylist John Barrett was opening up a braid bar at his Bergdorf Goodman salon, my first instinct was to run. I've passed the bright yellow signs along Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn advertising braiding services and heard tales of island-hoppers elatedly returning from vacation with cornrows. But I've always felt that the fancy braids were perhaps best left to the stars. Besides, I braid my hair before bed every night -- why would I need a stylist to do that for me?

Not to mention that the prices ($45 for any braided look, and $120 for a blow dry and braid) are more than I pay for a haircut, but StyleList decided to check it out anyway.
The salon's website features pictures of beaming stars with their hair in thick, gorgeous braids that are pretty hard to resist. I sat down with stylist Tasha Jetter who created two intricate hairstyles: a fishtail and a braided bun. Her work went miles beyond my bedtime hair fumbling.

Jetter's next client was a woman arriving for a wedding hair consultation, which besides making me feel a little silly, presented an ideal use of a braid bar. We might not make our appointment a regular one, but the bar is a great alternative to getting a regular blow-out for a fancy event, and an even better way to splurge after a long week.
Boy meets girl this as the fashionable set takes it all off. From sleek and shiny to piecey and edgy, the boy crop is a hot 'do!

A trend at New York Fashion Week, models and celebrities alike (Mary J. Blige, Kelly Osbourne, Pixie Geldof and Ginnifer Goodwin are just a few) have been spotted sporting shorter coifs.

We caught up with celebrity hairstylists Anh Co Tran of the Neil George Salon in Los Angeles and Patrick Melville of the Patrick Melville Salon and Spa in New York City for the scoop on the resurgence of this boldly feminine look and expert advice on how to recreate the style yourself.

 Hair Trend: The Boy Crop

Actresses Mia Farrow and Audrey Hepburn and model Twiggy popularized the pixie cut back in the 1950s and 1960s -- helping to transform society's perception of beauty.

"No matter the decade, short hair on woman suggests an air of rebellion, liberation and freedom," said Tran. "The pixie can be traced as far back as Joan of Arc. While showing strength and courage, it highlights a woman's feminine features."

And Melville points out that the hair style is like anything else that's in fashion. "Everything comes back in time," he said. "We've done it all before but we do it again with a twist."

 Hair Trend: The Boy Crop

Ginnifer Goodwin gave us quite the shock (but in a good way) when she switched out her wholesome, medium-length bob for this much shorter 'do.

The "Big Love" star's polished cut is a refreshing departure from the extreme lengths we often see on the red carpet. To get Ginnifer's sophisticated look, use a lift spray like Neil George Volumizing Spray. Create a side part and brush strands back with a paddle brush.

 Hair Trend: The Boy Crop

Kelly Osbourne has gone Hollywood with this glamorous take on the pixie. While the rocker child never bores us with constant hair transformations, this is a style we'd like to see her stick with for more than a mere millisecond.

With its longer bangs and shorter sides, this look works best on rounder faces. And whether you're platinum blonde like Kelly or a proud brunette, use a polish like Kérastase Lait Nutri-Sculpt to add shine.

 Hair Trend: The Boy Crop

Mary J. Blige's two-toned cut accentuates her almond-shaped eyes and gorgeous complexion. And if you have an oval face like the R&B diva, your styling options are endless!

Play up your features with short or long bangs. Sweeping hair to the side also opens up the face. But remember to maintain a feminine touch with tousled ends and interior texture for the appearance of movement.

And for women of color with tighter curls, try using a relaxer to neutralize strands.

 Hair Trend: The Boy Crop

London socialite and model Pixie Geldof's bad girl coif is oh so sweet. The soft pink hue adds an unexpected prettiness to the go with the flow 'do.

To recreate the choppy, spiky effect, mold strands with a hair dressing like Murray's Pomade. Generally used for African-American hair, this waxy product is great for all hair types.

 Hair Trend: The Boy Crop

As Vogue's October cover girl, Michelle Williams channels Mia Farrow circa "Rosemary's Baby." But the actress puts a modern spin on the classic cut with soft, round layers.

To get Michelle's simple, yet chic 'do, hydrate locks with a light spray like Neil George Detangle Nourishment Spray before drying. And finish with a styling cream like KMS Hair Play Hyper Paste.

The fashion world went crazy when Canadian model Irina Lazareanu said goodbye to her long locks and hello to a short, bowl cut -- sparking a trend from the catwalk to the red carpet.

And like a true trendsetter, Irina shows off how accessories such a black velvet hat can add a girly touch to a boyish hairstyle.

Christina Ricci hopped back on our radar when she was spotted out in and about in Santa Monica, CA, sporting this cut. The raven-haired actress' crop crosses bowl and pixie for a look that screams beautiful androgyny.

The secret to Christina's look is long, side swept bangs and a short, layered back.

British starlet Carey Mulligan is one of the latest actresses to garner Hollywood's attention in "An Education." And she definitely caught ours with her cute, Audrey Hepburn-esque auburn 'do.

For Carey's red carpet-worthy look, create a barely there part and comb bangs across forehead for a feathered effect.

Are your favorite stars rocking naturally long locks? Chances are, they're faking it. (With hair extensions, of course!)

Celebrity stylists and hair extension experts Laurent Dufourg of Privé Salon and Patrick Melville of the Patrick Melville Salon and Spa are dishing who has extra help in the hair department, and sharing their tips on what it takes to get the look.

Who Has 'Em?
When asked which stars have hair extensions, "They pretty much all do," says Patrick Melville. "If they don't have them right now, they have used them at one point in time -- celebs like Britney Spears and Fergie, for example."

How Long Do They Last?
"Individual extensions generally last 3 1/2 to 4 months depending on care. At about the two month mark a "tidy cut" would be required. This is a tightening, clean up of the extensions," explains Laurent DuFourg.

Damage Control
While many women worry about extensions causing damage to hair, trusting a seasoned professional can minimize the risk. "If the extensions are placed in the hair correctly, there should be no damage at all," says Melville. However, with extension types that are bonded to your hair, there is a greater chance of damage than with pieces that are simply clipped or sewn in.

The "Natural" Look
"To get totally undetectable extensions, go to your salon and have your colorist color them for a perfect match to your hair," suggests Melville. "And of course, if you want it to look natural, use only extensions made with real hair." While human hair extensions are pricier than synthetic hair, they have many advantages -- aside from looking realistic, you can also cut, color, and style them, whereas nylon strands would burn or break.

Fallout Shelter
According to Dufourg, extensions do loosen and fall out, "especially if you have oily hair." But how you handle your hair also plays a role in how long they last. "If you are rough with them and over-style then they won't last as long as with normal wear and tear," he says. So limit how often you style your hair, and be gentle with it at all times.

Wash This Way
"Great shampoo is essential to making the extensions last longer," says Dufourg. "Using shampoos that are sulfate-free is key." Sulfates, the foaming agents in most shampoos, can have a stripping effect on hair's moisture and color, and can also affect the bonds of extensions.

Condition Carefully
"After shampooing, use a sulfate-free conditioner. Lightly comb through extensions with gentle tension to get out all the knots and tangles," Dufour suggests. "Rinse out the conditioner well, and use a LIGHT leave-in conditioner. One thing extensions lack are moisture and shine, so a lightweight leave-in conditioner will add a protector barrier shielding your extensions from harsh elements, weather and free radicals."

Get Styled
"When it comes to styling, make sure you dry your hair properly," cautions Dufourg. "Use a blow-dryer and your fingers to dry hair about 80 percent, then use a round brush after to finish. Extensions tend to hold a lot more water [than your own hair] so make sure to get them as dry as possible before picking up the brush. If you're using styling tools, remember that extensions don't need a high heat, and use a ceramic flat iron or curling iron -- they're less damaging than mental."

The 28-year-old actress sported tousled tresses at the Los Angeles Film Festival premiere of "Life Happens" on Saturday. Bosworth's carefree blond locks flowed onto her neon pink skinny strap dress, and paired well with her dewy skin, flushed cheeks and pink-stained lips (thanks to Tarte cosmetics).

Unpredictable summer weather often forces many women to twist their locks into sad topknots, but the braid can turn a bad hair day into an effortlessly gorgeous hairdo, according to celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger.

Diane Kruger, Rihanna and Nicole Kidman have all managed to make simple plaits look pretty amazing. And models floated down the Spring 2011 runways of Lela Rose, Alexander McQueen and Valentino wearing wispy woven masterpieces.

"Braids appeal to so many women because they are easy to achieve no matter what your hair type," Hershberger tells StyleList. "They are a chic alternative to throwing hair into a traditional ponytail and attaining the style takes no time."

Want to recreate this tousled 'do at home? The Hollywood hair pro breaks it down into five simple steps:
1. Spray damp hair with Hyper Hydration Super Keratin Spray to lock in moisture and leave hair smooth.
2. Then flip your head upside down and use your fingertips to brush through the hair while blow drying. This will help to create a textured look throughout.
3. Spritz on a thickening mist like Plump Up to give hair guts.
4. Sweep the hair to one side, separate it into three sections and braid. Allow the little pieces that may start to stick out and fray to hang loosely as this adds a messy look to the style.
5. Finish with a flexible, lightweight hairspray for a strong hold without any heaviness or stickiness.

To achieve this punked-out look, add volumizing mousse to damp hair. Part your hair sharply to the side and blow-dry with a boar-bristel brush. To add extra volume, backcomb at the crown. To finish it off, add braids underneath or just&nbsp;flip hair over the top and to the side. Hairspray is the final touch.</p>" href="/photos/3-sexy-summer-hairstyles/4223751/" data-photo-src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.stylelist.com/media/2011/06/1-summer-hair-ref-29-590rb061411.jpg" data-credit="From right, clockwise: courtesy of TRESemme">The Sexy Summer Flip

The Half-Up Bombshell

Maybe you've had the same hairdo for the past six months, or now that temperatures are rising, your strands are starting to make you overheat. Either way, our friends over at Refinery 29 have rounded up three gorgeous summer hairstyles that require minimum effort but produce maximum effect.

Your options: the Sexy Summer Flip, an "alluring mix of punky and sexy" that has been featured on runways such as Charlotte Ronson Fall 2011; the Messy Morning After (enough said); or the Half-Up Bombshell, which involves hot rollers and tons of sex appeal.
Lively is back to being the golden girl with a strawberry blond 'do she flaunted yesterday at the Ghetto Film School Spring Benefit in New York City. The 23-year-old actress dyed her hair red for her role in the film, "Hick." Meester stepped onstage at Troubadour in West Hollywood last night rocking new blunt bangs and darker strands -- a casual departure from the sun-kissed highlights we're used to seeing the 25-year-old starlet wear.
When the heat is on, most women opt for shorter, cropped 'dos, but some of our favorite stars are going to great lengths this summer.

"Extensions can be very fun and rewarding," celebrity stylist and Hair Basics expert Ted Gibson tells StyleList. "They can range in price from $500-$5,000 and last from two weeks to four months, depending on which hair extensions you and your stylist decide on."

Hayden Panettiere, who has turned heads with her frequent hair switch-ups, attended the Vans Custom Culture Contest event in New York City on June 2 rocking wavy blond extensions. At the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation benefit on yesterday, Olivia Munn gathered her long, dark lengths into a ponytail and left out a few face-framing pieces. And for the Covenant House California Gala last Thursday, Jessica Alba paired her gorgeous mommy-to-be glow with layered, sun-kissed extensions for a half-up, half-down hairstyle.

Anxious to lengthen your locks like these celebs? Check out the expert advice below on how to style and care for hair extensions.

Not all extensions are created equal. "Always consult with a professional when it comes to hair extensions. You have to try and seek out the perfect extension type suitable for your hair, says Angelo David, celebrity stylist and salon owner. "Human hair extensions (especially Remy Hair) are by far the best, and they have to be customized according to your hair and the look you want to achieve like the Couture Hair Addition services we offer. Regular salon visits are important to keep your extensions in good shape."

Ask and you shall receive. Stylist Peter Santana of Sean Donaldson Hair in Miami, Florida believes there are three questions every pro should pose before you sit down in the chair:
o. What look do you want to achieve?
o. What length are you looking for?
o. What is your face type and body frame?

It's all about blending and layering. "When extensions are applied, it is key to blend them with the client's hair to achieve a more natural look. Never wear extensions at one length. We suggest a lot of layering," recommends Santana. "When cutting the hair, make sure to use a razor but don't overdo it as the hair will look frayed. Be careful how much pressure you put on your hair extensions with accessories -- it can pull them out."

Paddle away. "The most important tool is a professional paddle brush made especially for extensions," says Santana. "It is important to always brush the hair from the bottom up."

Say no to alcohol. "Products are so important to maintaining a beautiful mane of hair," says Amoy Pitters, celebrity stylist that tends to the tresses of Naomi Campbell, Alicia Keys and Sheryl Crow. "Alcohol-based products should not be used. Instead, focus on more oil-based products like shea or argon and a little goes a long way. Too much product will wear your hair down and increase build-up on the scalp."

Don't sleep on at-home hair maintenance. "Before taking a shower, slowly brush your hair upwards to prevent breakage. Use intense hydrating shampoo and conditioners followed by a great detangler and a wide-tooth comb. Apply a leave-in conditioner and let hair air-dry for a summer look, or apply a frizz control product like ANgelo David Zero-Frizz Control when blow-drying to protect it from excessive heat," says David.

Know when it's time to let go. "Keeping extensions in too long can cause major hair or scalp damage," adds Pitters. "I tell my clients to take them out after 10-12 weeks."

When a huge new trend like feather hair extensions arrives, not many people may stop to consider where those feathers are actually coming from. Turns out, our trendy hair accessories are leaving the nation's fly fishermen without the fly ties they need.

"I understand that using the feathers is fashionable and creative, but the really serious fly fishermen are up in arms," Keith Westra of Leland Flyfishing Outfitters told BellaSugar. "We have one or two women come knocking every day asking about feathers, but right now our regular amount of fly ties is basically out of stock and backordered for a long, long time."
