Intern Diaries: Notes from the Fashion Underground is a column that goes straight to the source of the fashion industry: the free labor. In this column, anonymous interns tell all about their terrible bosses and entitled coworkers as they endure ridiculous tasks which include, but are not limited to, fetching dry-cleaning, going on coffee runs and acting as a substitute nanny. This week's intern is a college graduate working at a style magazine in New York City.

DAY ONE
7:45 a.m Snooze.
8:00 Why is it so hot in my apartment?! I need to pick out an outfit that will keep me cool without looking trashy.
8:15 Settle on a belted vintage black sheath dress. Add open toed flats that a friend once let me borrow that have now become a full time member of my closet.
9:45 How do this many people fit in this tiny Starbucks?
10:00 First one to arrive out of my department. Time to set up big boss' water mugs, get tea and magazines ready and make sure her desk is clean. Very "The Devil Wears Prada" right?
10:30 Print out email invites for big boss.
11:00 Lesser boss asks me to open bags and boxes of beauty samples that were called in. How many of these are personal requests?
11:20 Fill bags full of beauty products for the other editors.
12:13 p.m. Run upstairs to the photo studio to shoot three products
12:18 Whoops! Lesser boss forgot to give me something earlier. Have to run back upstairs to drop it off.
12:35 Eat some breath mints to hold off hunger. Does not work.
1:00 Organize the remaining products.
2:30 Print more invites and email PR contacts to call in samples.
3:30 Ugh, missed lunch hours. Settle on eating a cookie, apple and Vitamin water. How unsatisfying.
4:00 Lesser boss assigns me to "URGENT CALL INS." Call PR contacts for products to be messengered over first thing tomorrow morning.
4:30 Stare out my window and spy on the financial guys in the other building. Hey there.
4:45 Lesser boss gets annoyed that the PR company sent the bag to me rather than her even though I specifically told them her name. Ugh.
5:00 Printer is down. AGAIN. Not supposed to use the art printer, but shh- this is an emergency! Again, according to boss.
5:14 Run up to the photo studio again. Thank God I wore flats today.
5:45 I need a drink.
6:20Take the subway back home where I online shop. Hey Piperlime's "Fall Preview Sale." Such a great marketing tactic to get people to buy knee high leather boots in the middle of summer.

DAY TWO
7:45 a.m. Snooze.
8:00 Decide to wear a cute Topshop skirt, plain white H&M top,and my new wedges from Dolce Vita.
8:35 I am so sweaty on this muggy subway platform. There goes my straightened hair.
9:43 Starbucks.
9:57 Lesser boss is in early. I can't believe before 11 is early.
10:02 Get big boss's tea and water ready.
10:15 Tea went cold by the time big boss came in. Quickly put it in microwave and nearly spill it on myself.
11:45 Errands time. Have to return three items to three different stores spread out over 15 blocks. Why did I wear my new wedges today?
12:05 p.m. Stop at J.Crew to return a hat.
12:18 At Prada returning a bracelet. Prada gives me a hard time and have to call big boss.
12:30 Final stop is at Bergdorf Goodman to return shoes. Those Louboutins are in my size. Hey, if she doesn't want them, I'll have them...
12:45 Got sucked into the beauty department at Bergdorf Goodman and bought three Kiehl's products. The saleswoman was so nice, I couldn't say no!
1:10 Officially over these heels. My poor feet!
1:30 Back in the office and start typing up a document of all the products featured in the next issue. Wish I could afford this stuff...
2:45 Need food. Basically missed lunch hours again and have to buy a vegetable soup, bread and a small bag of Swedish Fish. Somewhat nutritious?
3:45 Lesser boss asks me to bring up a product to the photo studio. I say, "Yes," but my feet scream, "Please don't make me walk anymore!"
5:50 Big boss is gone. I open all new products and arrange on her table.
6:15 Exhausted, hungry and annoyed by these tourists blocking my path to the subway. What are you taking pictures of?
7:00 Go to a friend's apartment nearby and complain about the amount of walking I did all day. It doesn't, however, dissuade me from going out for a drink.

DAY THREE
7:45 a.m. Snooze.
8:00 Not in the mood to dress myself. Dresses allow me to be lazy, so my red Zara dress it is! Add heels from some unknown TJ Maxx brand.
9:35 I hate this Starbucks location, but the other subway line came first. The line is basically out the door!
9:48 Walked past a group of at least 40 teenagers all dressed in red t-shirts. Hear a couple of boys comment on my height. Hey, just because I'm 5'11 doesn't mean I don't like to wear 3.5 inch heels too!
9:53 I hate awkward elevator rides.
10:00 Fix up big boss' water mugs, counter and magazines. No tea this time.
10:15 Get big boss her tea.
10:35 Have to collect all the press releases for products featured in the issue. Email PR contacts like crazy!
11:45 Big boss needs more tea.
12:17 p.m. Big boss wants lunch. I take her order and head to the cafeteria.
12:40 Sushi day in the cafeteria! Make a point not to miss lunch hours, but have to wait in line for what seems like forever! Notice that everyone has nice shoes on.
1:45 Still collecting press releases.
1:50 Is that Tom Ford's new scent that I see on the giveaway table? Mine! Along with the "Vegan's Guide to Cupcakes." Great day.
2:15 I could really go for one of those cupcakes right now...
2:30 Cleaning out the closet. I wish there was another department intern to talk to. This closet can get a little lonely.
3:45 Editors want some iced beverages at Starbucks. I get three drinks to-go and an iced chai for myself.
5:45 Highlight the press releases to follow up on. Open a few more boxes and bags.
6:00 Ask boss for two scrubs. My face is breaking out from this heat and lack of sleep.
6:02 Two new scrubs! This is what I slave away for right? Sometimes I have to reassure myself.
6:05 Lesser boss comes in and talks to me about her expectations. What did I do wrong? I've only been working here a month.
6:20 Freedom!
7:00 Nothing like some yoga to calm my mind.
8:15 Nothing like a beer to completely ruin my yoga workout.
11:15 Really want that cute purse on Piperlime.com. It was Rachel Zoe's pick! Realize I don't have any money. Ah, the life of an intern.

With chunky platforms and clogs as his ammo, Jeffrey Campbell has won over tribes of fashion bloggers around the globe. Arielle Nachmani--the personal style blogger behind Somethingnavy--is no exception. The 24-year-old is head over heels obsessed with the shoe designer -- she has been spotted everywhere from Chelsea to the village in Campbell's Lita Fur Ankle Boots). They're talented, captivating, and some of the most fashionable women in America...and not a single one is younger than 70! Meet the women of Advanced Style.

Much like the Sartorialist and Street Peeper, Advanced Style is a street-style blog that showcases impeccably dressed individuals. The catch? Nearly all of the subjects are in their 70s or 80s. Photographer Ari Seth Cohen -- who started the website after his grandmother passed away -- dispels the stigma surrounding aging, and he's definitely succeeding. People are beginning to notice that, hey, things aren't so bad after you turn 60. Just ask birthday girl Helen Mirren.

In an industry that thrives on youth and excess, it is refreshing to see fabulous seniors who still take pride in their image, and exude the same elegance and self-confidence that so many Hollywood starlets try to recreate. You can't help but smile when you see a photograph of 82-year-old designer Miyano Haraki, surrounded by her hat designs, or Ruth, a 100-year-old who makes time for Pilates every morning. There's even a section called: "I'm Proud to be ___ Years Old."

Up next for Advanced Style? Cohen has a project with PowerHouse Books about his stylish subjects in the works for spring 2012, a hush-hush Fashion Week collaboration, and another video with Lina Plioplyte. DAY ONE

6:15 a.m. Alarm goes off. Even if you don't own a Blackberry, everyone knows that Antelope Alarm gets anyone up.
6:18 Body is up, but eyes aren't open yet.
6:20 First attempt to put my contacts in.
6:22 Second attempt. Only if I owned a pair of glasses that had CHANEL on it would they be acceptable.
6:28 Vision = 20 - 20. Time to get dressed for daily workout.
6:30 The Treadmill looks like the highway to hell.
7:25 "GTL" - Gym, Tired, Leaving.
7:28 Time to wash off the tomboy and put on fashionista.
7:50 Blowing drying hair longer than your shoulders becomes a pain. Debate shaving it off. Hey if Demi Moore can pull it off can't I?
8:00 COFFEE COFFEE. 2 cups down, 2 to go.
8:10 Sitting, staring at my clothes. Don't want to be a repeat offender. But I must pull a Kate Middleton- put on my go to Floral Dress by Cynthia Steffe, pair it with 4-inch Michael Kors wedges.
8:50 Walking to the subway, passing the most beautiful bankers I have ever seen. Should I go into investment banking? Nah... Investing in fashion so much better.
9:32 Amex Reports. They charged this much for what?
11:00 An event is happening at a high end venue, told to find a vendor to rent decorations from.
1:30 p.m. Getting up to eat finally when... "Can you run and get this up on 52nd street please"?
1:32 Hello HopStop.
1:40 Off to midtown in 90-degree heat in 4-inch heels.
2:15 In the office of one of the top nail polish companies in the nation. I think I'm wearing one of their colors on my toes.
2:30 Pick up 50 colors, plus 4 for own personal collection. I have heard in the fashion industry you do get a lot of freebies.
3:15 LUNCH at my desk. Hey at least its lunch.
4:00 I have to wear what tomorrow?
4:45 Only sizes 0, 2, 4.
5:10 Told to be at event venue at 9 am tomorrow with no chipped nails. Who is looking at my nails in this outfit.
6:30 Throwing in the towel.
7:15 Home sweet home.
9:00 My pillow is calling my name.


DAY TWO

6:15 a.m. Wake up.
6:18 Vision.
6:30 Work out time.
7:20 GTL.
7:30 Shower, Hair, Make up.
7:50 Coffee cup number two. Coffee is my drug.
8:20 Looking at my dresses, when I remember I was told to wear something comfy with a fresh Mani.
8:25 Attempt to do my own nails.
8:30 Leggings, t-shirt, a pair of Nike running shoes. This is comfy!
9:40 Put my running shoes to work on the way to subway.
9:30 How many feet? "7, 000.. And we have to lay it down."
10:30 Called over to help unpack inventory. Thankful at the time, I soon start to smell like a soccer field.
10:32 Is this real life? I need to unpack 4,000 cups. And count them...
12:30 p.m. 2,565 down...
2:30 3,998 cups. Suppose to be 4,000, only 2 short!
2:45 Was told to find the two missing cups. Said I found them... what they don't know doesn't hurt.
4:00 Called out for my ugly nails.
4:15 Was told I have 30 minute break... run to Rite Aid to get nail polish, lunch was going to have to wait.
4:30 Doing my nails with fellow intern outside, when spotted: Camera Diaz and A-Rod.
4:32 Got in another work out by running after them.
4:45 Back to work, unpacking more inventory.
7:00 Given my outfit for the night.
7:20 Dressed for the night with other interns, if I told you what we wore, I might have to kill you.
7:25 Hey, at least we get paid.
8:00 Doors open- told I would be on my feet for 4-5 hours.
9:30 Someone complimented me on my outfit. Judging by her outfit I understood why she thought these hideous shorts were cute.
10:30 Regretting my 4 inch black heels, feeling the blisters.
11:00 Yes definitely have blisters.
11:05 My feet are going to fall off.
12:00 a.m. Event done, clean up time.
1:00 Pass out on the couch.

Day Three

6:15 a.m. Alarm goes off. Snooze.
7:15 I guess no work out for me today.
7:45 Top knot will have to do.
7:50 Chug a cup of coffee.
8:15 Realize it's Friday. In my office you're allowed to wear jeans, shocker right? I am feeling super trendy in my new boyfriend jeans, vintage Police T, nude blazer, turban headband, and my Stuart Weitzman 4.5 inch mules.
8:45 Remembering my blister, decide to put on flats for the walk over.
9:15 Sit on a bench a block away from the office. Shoe switch.
10:00 Told a client is coming in for a pitch and must remove any beverage that is not theirs from the office.
10:35 Asked if I would like to view an event venue.
11:00 Heading up town in a cab with my two bosses. Realized they are still human, even though they have impeccable style.
11:15 Arrive at the Empire Hotel, wondering if I'll meet Chuck Bass. (Let's admit gossip girl is a guilty pleasure).
11:40 Asked to help measure. Good thing I have 4-inches on me, no way would I have been able to reach the heights they asked.
12:00 p.m. Heading back to Soho, Cab drivers in Manhattan have a death wish.
12:15 Quick lunch- completely understand how people lose weight in this industry, all work no play.
12:45 Asked to help the only straight guy in my office unload some boxes.
2:00 That was annoying.
2:15 #sosickofeveryonetalkinginhashtags.
2:30 My office loves social media, I think I am ready to give in... follow me @****_***.
3:30 Asked to research centerpieces for our event next week.
3:45 Think I found the best thing ever, propose it to my boss, and shut down.
4:00 Second time... fingers crossed.
4:05 She approves- thankful to end my day.
4:30 Out early for Fridays, in desperate need for a drink. (Perhaps a watermelon picnic cocktail?)

How do you organize your closet?
I am constantly organize my closet, always getting rid of things I don't wear. I love to get rid of things! My dream is to have an entire separate closet of just SOPHOMORE!

What is one thing you wear every day?
I wear a lot of denim, either jeans, jean shorts or jean jacket.

How long does it take to get dressed in the morning?
Under 5 minutes! I am quick!

What do you own that you will never throw away, but never wear again?
Oh boy I have lots of that stuff. I collect weird vintage things that would never fit me. I love children's clothes. I use it for inspiration.

What is your favorite recent purchase?
Patchwork denim shorts from eBay.

Who is your ideal shopping buddy?
My friend Jen Brill, we are both super quick and she has amazing taste.

Easy, comfortable and sexy!

We wish we had a cool rooftop party to go to this weekend. But we don't. (What else is new.) Since we don't, we'll have to live vicariously through y'all out there with crazy, sexy, cool plans. So with that in mind, we've put together this little get-up that's perfect for long, boozy brunches, shopping binges, and Saturday night parties. Sounds so fun! Alas, if you stick to the socializing, we'll stick to the outfit picking. Deal?

Style Tips

Tuxedo jacket: There's no arguing that a well-cut jacket will make you look boss, because a blazer looks great on every body type. Pair with jean shorts, a full skirt, or throw one on over a dress -- there's no wrong way to wear one.

Top: You'll want the jacket to do most of the talking, so pair it with a soft, feminine blouse or top. Something in a light peach, gray, or pink is what we'd choose. For a more casual look, go for a top that's loose.

Shorts: Yee haw, jean shorts are in! Stay away from anything too too short -- we don't want to see any pocket linings sticking out. Almost everything else in the denim short category is fair game, though. Oh. Except drawstrings. No drawstrings.

Sandals: Anything leather and Italian will have our stamp of approval. We like this Loeffler Randall pair because they match our skin tone, and shoes that match the leg, elongate the leg. Choose a pair that's right for your stems.

Accessories: Certainly no need to break the bank for a turquoise skull necklace. This thing might not have a long shelf life, but we love it for this moment and for this outfit. And the bag? The bucket shape is at the same time trendy, and timeless. The southwestern colors and funky texture will add a lot of pizzazz to any ensemble.

AOL & StyleList was proud to co-sponsor Japan Rising, a silent auction and fundraiser held April 28, at Milk Gallery in NYC, to benefit the survivors of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster. Event organizer Mayumi Tatsuta of A Good Gathering released a statement saying, "Thank you to all the participants and attendees who helped us make this more of a success than we could have imagined. It was so heartwarming to see how many people came together to support what is for me a very personal cause." The combined efforts of all involved raised over $40,000. Art is still available at 32auctions.

Longtime friends, advertising vet Mayumi Tatsuta and activewear guru Ben Pruess, came together altruistically to organize Japan: Rising, a silent auction and fundraiser being held on April 28, at Milk Gallery in NYC, to benefit the survivors of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster.

By first partnering with Erik Lavoie of Vice and Milk Gallery -- Pruess and Tatsuta decided rather than reach for their checkbooks they would reach to their community. What they found was an outpouring of love and generosity by renowned and emerging artists and photographers such as AOL artist Mike Perry.

Serendipitously, while organizing Japan: Rising, Pruess and Tatsuta found a void in the events-planning industry. Hence A Good Gathering was born to unite the arts community for the greater good while enjoying each others' company. Their philosophy: Good people. Good cause. Great night out. And Thursday is their grand debut with Japan: Rising.

When it comes to sheer gear, there is a great diversity of opinion, with only one thing being sure: it's all about confidence.

One of Spring 2011's biggest trends, this gauzy look is not for the shy or body-conscious.

So StyleList decided to test the trend on the streets of Soho, in NYC. Donning a sheer Kimono shirtdress by NAHM, we set out to hear just what people think of sheer gear. Stopping unknowing strangers we asked, "How appropriate is sheer on the streets?"

The response was mixed, with one fashion-forward girl exclaiming, "Anyone who doesn't like sheer is afraid of it." And another who vowed never to indulge the sexy trend. Conversely, all men seemed quite comfortable with sheer (of course) and lauded the NAHM dress as a tasteful approach to the trend.

There was an obvious split between young and not-so-young, with the younger set unanimously regarding the trend as a winner. While the older set felt it more for the young and fit.

But no matter how brave and confident you might be, it's probably best to layer your sheer look for the office. "Don't want to get anyone too excited," as one woman exclaimed.

But keep that attitude because that's what will give you the courage to bare it all.

Summer-ready styles took center stage at this year's Coachella concert series.

And while the performers are trend setters themselves -- Kanye West, Scissor Sisters, The Strokes and Ms. Lauryn Hill, to name a few -- we kept our sights set on the audience's fashion sense.

There were the outdoor concert must-haves: fringe, floppy hats and barely-there short shorts -- but it was the styling techniques that had us aching for warmer weather as we live-screened the entire showcase. For example: we can't wait to experiment with easy maxi skirts paired with flimsy tanks or denim cut-offs avec combat boots.

If you think age doesn't equate to beauty and style, you haven't met New York's most fashionable older women behind photographer Ari Seth Cohen's Advanced Style blog.

Today, his iconic style mavens are featured in a short -- and oh so fun -- film on NOWNESS.com created by filmmaker Lina Plioplyte. Trust us, this could be the best two minutes of your day.

Termed "anti-fashion fashion" by one of the ladies wearing an Andy Warhol-style bracelet, these senior fashionistas are making a grand statement.

"Hearing them speak about clothing is so fascinating," Cohen said on the site. "There is history and memories in what they are wearing and I think it's important to show that storytelling aspect, as well as their vitality and creativity."

You've got textile guru Iris Apfel with her signature owl glasses, artist Ilona Royce Smithkin in bright orange eyelashes and other women adorning leopard sunglasses, bright feather scarves, men's jackets and bold chunky earrings.

"I don't want to go around like a dreary old lady," one woman said.

As great as these women are, Cohen said he'd also like to add Yoko Ono, Richard Avedon's 60s muse China Machado and Jane Schmitt, who was featured recently in the Lanvin X H&M campaign. We can think of one other style queen who should have been a part of this iconic group: Elizabeth Taylor.

It's timeless fashion, bold color and the permission to be creative that get these women noticed on the streets of the Big Apple.

"Walking around New York taking photographs, I noticed how many young girls are appropriating style from older women: leopard print, fur, turbans and hats," said Cohen. "In general, the older women wear these things naturally, with more confidence."

Confident, indeed.

"I don't dress for anybody else. I dress for myself," added one woman. "If somebody doesn't like what I'm wearing, I don't give a shit."

Fashion statements aren't just made on the catwalk during Fashion Week. Off the runway, the semiannual event is a magnet for fashionistas and fashionistos who wear striking outfits to the shows.

Some of these attendees consider themselves trendsetters, while others are self-declared artists whose ensembles are their works. While most of them might stand out walking down Main Street, USA, nothing is too over-the-top at Fashion Week.

Some show up to Fashion Week events sporting a different theme every day, as does longtime regular Shail Upadhya, who draws inspiration from such artists as Andy Warhol, Joan Miró, Wassily Kandinsky and the Old Masters.

"I am trying to elevate fashion as an art form," says Upadhya, in a Warhol-inspired floral-print suit when he spoke to us. "It is my hope that one day, an outfit that has been well-designed will be just as valuable as a piece of art. This is my idea of art, which walks."

Interested in finding your own unique look? Hoda Salameh, a journalist and fashion stylist who traveled from Detroit to attend the shows, advises people to follow their instincts.

"I say do what you want to do," Salameh told StyleList. "Because, at the end of the day, it is about you and your style. Style is an indicator of self-expression, so if you can unleash your personality through clothes, that is what fashion is all about."

Dubai is a fashion destination for the international jet set, so when we found out that one of our top photographers, Manjari Sharma, was traveling there on assignment, we jumped at the chance to find out what people are wearing in one of the world's most influential cities.

Sharma's coterie of stylish subjects was as international as they come. Most have been living in Dubai for close to a decade, with their homelands as varied as Tunisia and Kentucky. Interestingly, recognizable Western brands, such as Forever 21, Reiss, and Zara, were well represented, while well-to-do women also carried Hermès as their handbag of choice.
