How Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress Will Influence Bridal Fashion

Vanessa Kelterborn, a store manager at ABS Clothing Collection Inc. in Santa Monica, Calif., arranges a knockoff design of Kate Middleon's royal wedding gown. Mass-produced versions of her dress are expected to be on racks as early as late June. (AP)

kate middleton wedding dress bridal fashionWedding and event planner Brian Worley shares his thoughts on the royal wedding and how he thinks Kate and Pippa Middleton will inspire bridal fashions:

Like billions of people, I watched the fairy-tale royal wedding, and as a wedding planner, the first thing that impressed me was how everything ran on time and like clockwork. That rarely happens! In fact, I usually plan on a wedding to start at least 15 minutes late. So for those of us who were up until the wee hours of the night (or early hours of the morning), the royals didn't tease us.

From an outsider's view, it was flawless. The guests arrived on time and in an orderly fashion. And I loved that some of them chose to really push the fashion envelope -- with outrageous hats (or fascinators as they call them across the pond) and bright colors. Even the men stepped up the style with medals, bold ties and plaid slacks, looking put together and far from the stogy persona usually associated with the Brits!

Speaking of style hits, Kate's dress was stunning and classic. She looked beautiful. For 2011 and onward, the bridal train is back, along with fuller skirts. Although strapless dresses have been the norm for so long, we will see shoulder-covering lace and sleeves make their debut again because Sarah Burton. Known for being more of a modern designer, the McQueen mastermind created a gown that looked '50s inspired and was a nod to Grace Kelly.

But to be honest, I thought Kate would have worn something closer to her sister Pippa's sleek, body-conscious gown, but more royal looking. Also, the maid of honor's dress was very close in color to the bride's. Will this become a new trend -- the same color for the entire wedding party?

Prince William in his uniform looked regal; you can't go wrong when you're decorated with medals, gold rope, tassels and a sash! Prince Harry was also adorned with much-earned bling for his years of military service. But I doubt the princes' looks will start a trend for non-royal weddings -- that would be a little too much!

All in all, the whole wedding was full of hits, no misses and was truly royal. Here's to them living happily every after!

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012 Bridal Show

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012 Bridal ShowThe bohemian bride took center stage at Oscar de la Renta's spring 2012 show, with lots of floral and tulle.

From a strapless gown with shredded fringe a la Stevie Nicks to a fur vest with bejeweled satin pants, the ensembles were decidedly eclectic, fresh and gypsy-esque.

Trend Alert: All White Weddings

The rest of the collection included short cocktail dresses with embroidery and embellishments, fur-trimmed mermaid styles with lots of shimmer and headpieces and wraps in place of traditional veils.

Fluffy, ruffled confections with layers of tiered tulle in white, pink and pale blue closed the runway show.

Celebrity Bride: Megan Fox

Dan Lecca

If you aren't certain about what wedding dress to choose, follow one of Hollywood's fashion icons whose style is similar to yours. If you're a laid-back and carefree bride like Megan Fox, consider gowns with a free-flowing silhouette. Empire-waist styles made with chiffon fabrics and very little detail will give a bohemian feel. Try a flat sandal and floral hair accessory to bring your entire look together.
