Beauty Basics: Wedding Makeup
Whether you're doing your own makeup or enlisting the help of a pro, every woman deserves to look gorgeous on her wedding day! Makeup artists Carmindy from TLC's What Not to Wear shares a foolproof makeup look that any bride can do.
White Highlighter
Start with shimmering white highlighting powder and use a fluffy shadow brush to apply it right underneath the eyebrow and at the inner corners of the eyes. This is going to capture the light and make your eyes look romantic, says Carmindy.
Highlight Your Cheeks
Use an angle brush and apply shimmery highlighter to cheekbonesfor a glowy, radiant look that highlights your bone structure.
Highlight Your Chest
Use the same brush to apply a little bit of highlighter to your chest and shoulders to give your body a nice luminous glow.
Waterproof Eyeliner
"Waterproof gel eyeliner pencil is great for brides! I like to start at the center of the eyelid (at the base of the lashes) and work my way out for smaller eyes. On larger eyes, you can line the whole upper lash line," suggests Carmindy.
Eyeshadow
Stick to neutral shadow shades for soft, pretty bridal eyes that won't look overdone. Try powder eye shadows instead of creams because they last longer and choose shades with a bit of shimmer which really holds up under lights and looks beautiful in photographs. Use a flat eye shadow brush with a
slightly rounded edge to apply the shadow. across your lid and up to the crease.
Lining Bottom Lashes
For a little definition under the eyes that's not as harsh as liner, use a liner brush to lightly smudge a darker shade of shadow just beneath the lower lash line.
Mascara
"The last step to a perfect bridal eye is waterproof or tube technology mascara. Both of these types of mascara will stay put through crying and last all night long," says Carmindy. Hold the wand vertically on lower lashes, and horizontally on top to get the best application.
Blush
Rose blush works with every skin tone and it's the best way to enhance your cheeks for a beautiful blushing bride look. "You can go a little bit more intense with your blush color considering that you're going to be under lights and in photographs," suggests Carmindy. Swirl a fluffy brush in the blush, smile big, and apply it to the apples of your cheeks using light circular motions, blending it back into hairline.
Lip Color
For staying power, line and fill in your lips with a rose-colored pencil. This creates a strong base, so even if your lipstick or gloss wears off by the end of the day, you'll still be left with beautiful color underneath.
