Beauty Basics: Day to Night Step-by-Step

Many women have to rush out of the office and go straight to a party. Or, after a long day at home with the kids you have to meet someone for dinner. Makeup artist Carmindy's easy steps will take you from day makeup to night makeup without having to start from scratch.

Carmindy's Tip: You never know when something will come up! So always keep a little cosmetic bag handy, either in your desk or handbag, that's stocked with the makeup you need to go from day to night.

STEP 1: Touch Up Foundation

Go over your face with a concealer brush dipped in a little foundation, focusing the coverage on areas where the foundation has separated, and coveing up spots that may have been unconcealed during the day.

STEP 2: Powder

You've probably gotten a little bit of shininess during the say, so tone that down with a light dusting of translucent powder, applied with a large powder brush all over the face.

STEP 3: Eye Shadow

You most likely have eyeliner and mascara left over from your daytime face, which you don't want to reapply. So just add a few things that are missing. Apply a universally flattering shade of shimmery taupe shadow across the lids, from the lash lines to the creases. Apply the same color under the lower lashes, using an angle brush for precision.

STEP 4: Line Lower Lids

Define under your eyes for a slightly smoky, sultry look. Use the same shade of taupe shadow beneath the lower lash lines, applied dry with an angled liner brush for precision.

STEP 5: Liquid Liner

Liquid eyeliner is great for night because it's highly pigmented and will make your eyes really pop. Camindy recommends tracing over your daytime pencil liner with a jet black liquid liner, running the line a hair past the edge of the upper lash lines for a slight cat-eye effect.

STEP 6: Lips

Lips are last! Pump them up with a shade that's 2 shades darker than your daytime color, and apply it with a lip brush for extra precision.

FINAL LOOK

The finished look is a pretty, slightly pumped-up version of your natural daytime look that'll enhance your features very well under dim, nighttime lighting.
